In an email sent hours before his death in a fiery single-car crash in Los Angeles Tuesday, award-winning journalist Michael Hastings reportedly wrote that he was working on a “big story” and was going to “go off the radar for a bit.”
The subject of the email was “FBI investigation re: NSA,” KTLA reports.
A copy of the email, sent on Monday, was reportedly provided to KTLA by Staff Sgt. Joseph Biggs, who was a recipient of the email.
“Hey [redacted copy], the Feds are interviewing my ‘close friends and associates.’ Perhaps if authorities arrive ‘BuzzFeed GQ’, er HQ, may be wise to immediately request legal counsel before any conversations or interviews about our news-gathering practices or related journalism issues,” Hastings wrote in the email.

Anything is possible these days, even the NSA possibly getting involved in "wet work". However, there have certainly been some stories in the past few years about the security problems found in cars with OBD-II computer controls.

In some of the other stories on this, chase vehicles were used to take over critical systems (throttle, brake, etc.) When you factor in the resources that the government has (such as full access to the OBD system code), the possibilities get very ugly.
I think I'll hang on to my '64 pickup.

Here’s an interview with eyewitness..saw one done with him at crash scene but he doesn’t speak English fluently so this one is done with a translator. It seems there were sparks around the gas tank or undercarriage even before he went through the red light.

She also said it was a huge scene... lots of local and other police, plus the FBI. I found it odd that the FBI would show up for what should be a "typical" late night car accident.

I didn’t know that the FBI investigated autombile accidents ?
And the FBI are ‘country cousins’ to the CIA !
They are all under the aegis of the Dept. of “Just-US” !!
Since the FBI are implicated by the Hastings email text , I would suggest an independent investigation !!

Driving too fast is not, as you say, a simple logical explanation. It might be for a 20 year old kid but this guy was an adult and a serious, accomplished writer who was working on a big story and concerned about his well-being.
If it was NOT the FBI but someone posing as the FBI who were looking and questioning before the accident they certainly better be investigating now!
How do we know it’s him?

We don’t know for certain till the autopsy. Police are assuming its him because its his car. The car could have been stolen. Joy Ride would have explained the speed.

Well , that’s two major stories which would have impacted the administration/ regieme that were mysteriously “killed” under suspicious circumstances :
#1)Brietbart’s big story after going to Ayers residence for dinner ~ heart attack
#2) Hastings story on David Petraeus ‘early retirement’ from the CIA (spook city) ~ auto accident
In these two instances , the only agency who could effectively pull all the strings is the NSA , whom we are only just learning about.
Is Diane Fienstein really capable of over-seeing the watchers ?
or more symbolicly : who in their right mind would put “ Marshmellow Fluff” on a Reuben sandwich ?
My question is : Who is watching the watchers ?
