In a major victory for murder suspect George Zimmerman, a judge today ruled that prosecutors may not put on the witness stand two state audio experts who say the voice heard screaming in the background of a 911 call was someone other than Zimmerman.
The judge had heard three days of testimony about the science used by the state's experts and ruled that it failed to meet Florida's legal standard.
One of the experts, Alan R. Reich, had concluded the voice he identified as Trayvon is heard yelling "I'm begging you" and "stop." The other, Tom Owen, says he ruled Zimmerman out as the screamer with biometric software.
Both are now banned.

I read the transcript from those hearings and actually wish the jury were going to hear and see all that in open court. I think it demonstrates the state’s intent to railroad the guy.
I thought Trayvon’s dad said I wasn’t he when he first heard the tape. Changing story?
Yes. Trayvon’s dad first said it was not his son screaming on the tape. Then said it was.
Witness Recants Statement Identifying Zimmerman As Person Screaming For Help
(excerpt)
The witness named John, who identified Zimmerman as the man screaming for help, recanted that part of his statement when he was interviewed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on March 20, 2012.
He said it was too dark to see the mouths of the two individuals and he had just assumed that the man on the bottom was the one screaming.
However, his description of the fight also has changed:
The black guy was on top, he told FDLE Investigator John Batchelor. The guy that was on the ground, under him at that point, wrestling, was definitely a lighter color.
It was dark outside, he said, and at first, he thought he was witnessing a dogfight. When he stepped to the door, he realized it was two people on the ground wrestling.
The person on top was either hitting or pinning the other to the ground, he said. The person on the bottom was struggling to get up.
He yelled at them to stop, he said, Hey, cut it out, and thought they would, but they didnt, so he stepped inside and headed upstairs to call 911.
He heard a loud pop, like a rock hitting a window, he said.
When he looked again, the person who had been on top, he said, was in the grass not moving while the other gentleman has his hands in the air The one guy that was on the bottom said, I shot the other guy in self-defense. The gun is on the ground.
No wonder the prosecutors charged him with second degree murder. This is a different case.
Just a technical point. The upper limit frequency on phone transmission is something less than 4 kHz.
You may use deadly force if you reasonably believe you will die or suffer serious injury.
“....the black community WILL scream about unfair trial ....”
Ask Zimmerman if he gives a $h!t. Unless Zimmerman goes away for the rest of his life, the BC will scream. Unfortunately, that prospect is overshadowing a fair trial. We jus can’t have de Gibbsmedats unhappy now can we.
Saying "George Zimmerman, accused of second degree murder" would be more professional.
There's a saying that when the evidence is in your favor, present the evidence, when it isn't, present experts. Now the state has neither.
There's one other very important piece of physical evidence in Zimmerman's favor: his pistol. The only evidence photo i've seen of it shows that it suffered a stovepipe jam when it tried to extract and eject the fatal cartridge. IOW the slide moved back while extracting the cartridge case but the ejector filed to flip the case out of the weapon. Then, when the slide moved forward to strip off and chamber a new round, the spent round prevented it from moving forward and the slide jammed that case up against the breach of pistol's barrel. The most likely way for that to have happened was if Zimmerman, pinned down on his back by Martin, fired the weapon at very close quarters, and Zimmerman's body blocked the spent cartridge while the pistol attempted to eject it.
To visualize what I'm saying, take your right hand in the shape of a pointed pistol and hold it against your chest with your forefinger pointing forward the way a pistol's barrel would. Then imagine a spent cartridge ejecting at the base of your forefinger, right against your chest. Great way to stovepipe almost every time.
>>The FBI even said there is no way to tell who is screaming on the tape.<<
And what is it about the FBI that makes them so credible?
“Just a technical point. The upper limit frequency on phone transmission is something less than 4 kHz.”
I used the mike specs from the FM radios I used to design. I didn’t think anything could be worse than that. I stand corrected. At 4k, with noise, compression hash, etc. the “experts” would be lucky to tell male from female.
OK, well, he was on the ground screaming for help, if they could prove it was Z screaming, I think that would be a good thing.
The bad thing is that the prosecution's expert will either say it was Travon screaming or that they couldn't tell.
The defense's expert will say it was Z screaming or that they couldn't tell who it was.
I do a lot of work with audio equipment (high end tube stereos) and if I had a decent sample of both of their voices and also the 911 tape, I could run them through a spectrum analyzer and it would be obvious which one is closer. Unfortunately, the noise that I bet is on the 911 tape would result in several spikes as well and voice calls frequencies are limited to 3000hz so no harmonics either.
Now I'm using thirty year old equipment because I don't need state of the art parts because I'm working with old (tube) technology. I have no doubts that the tools the police (and experts on both sides) have access to equipment which will eliminate the noise or bring the actual voice & screaming up so its S/N leaves the noise in the dust. No doubt they also have equipment that can easily determine whose voice is screaming but we have a small problem getting a sample from Travon for some reason.
To say nothing about a voice screaming is not anywhere near the same voice talking. All the frequency peaks are shifted, nothing matches. Any subtle intonation is gone as the throat is wide open and everthing is under stress.
He’s in the process of adjusting the pitch as we post.
Yep. I'm hoping she'll at least "split the baby".
Absent this decision, the mediawhores would simply find something else to blame. It’s a fools effort to make decisions in a defensive way, hoping to preclude them being “spun” because if you do, the spinners win.
Press on, make the right call, ignore the static.
She did.
Most noise reduction is done with selective filtering or compression, both of which subtly, and sometimes not too subtly, modify the characteristics of the original recording. Not a problem when you’re trying to pull an actor’s voice out of the noise because you’re not trying to match it to anything. Bigger problem when you’re trying to use it for evidentiary purposes.
