On June 20, a three judge panel ordered California to reduce its prison population by 10,000 persons. California has been under court order to reduce its prison population since 2009.

According to Reuters, the panel criticized California's slow approach to dealing with their prison overcrowding and threatened to hold Gov. Jerry Brown in contempt if he does not act on their order quickly.

Brown argued that he lacks the authority to carry out the court's orders. State law makers said they are working on legislation to change that.

Brown is seeking a stay of the court's order.

Being a judge seems to be an increasingly powerful position to be in.

these judges essentially say F you citizens, we don’t care if you are killed or harmed by this

your spouses, children, parents... are expendable

Sounds like a recipe for success!

Wonder how many will stay in California? Job market and all..

Crap like this can make for bad neighborly relations.

Send 10,000 illegals in prison back to Mexico.

Want to go to town? Send their families back also.

“Repatriation”, combined with strong employer “disincentives” would likely solve the issue.

It’s not an insurmountable problem , as some would have us believe.

Tell Charlie Manson to hang in there. The judge has an extra room he’ll let Crazy Chuck use when he’s set free.

That panel is the worst of the worst. Here's all you need to know about Reinhardt:

"Stephen Reinhardt is married to Ramona Ripston, who was Executive Director of the ACLU of Southern California until her February 2011 retirement."

Get rid of the "War on Drugs(TM)" and release anybody in prison over anything involving soft drugs.

This would be a good opportunity to tell Washington D.C. that the WOD is over.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contacts: Sheriff Greg Ahern, President June 20, 2013 510-272-6866

Nick Warner, Legislative Director 916-443-7318

California State Sheriffs’ Association Issues Statement on Three-Judge Panel Order to Immediately Release Inmates The California State Sheriffs’ Association unalterably disagrees with the Three-Judge Panel court order issued today ordering the immediate release of prison inmates.

“This order is unbelievably ill-advised and a tremendous threat to public safety,” said CSSA President, Sheriff Greg Ahern.

“With the order to achieve 137.5% of design capacity in State’s prisons, this means releasing over 9,000 inmates to our streets. It is categorically unacceptable,” he further stated. “California Sheriffs have worked tirelessly over the last 18 months to implement public safety realignment. While it is still a work in progress, many of us have been able to provide programs and services to inmates that may not have been accessible to them in the past. And we continue to look for solutions to some of the unforeseen difficulties. It is our hope that when inmates are released, they will be successful out of custody and not be faced with the certainty of recidivism.”

“Over 30 Sheriffs are in counties with jail facilities under some kind of population cap, court-ordered or self-imposed. These facilities simply cannot absorb the wave of criminality that would come with an immediate release of such a large number of inmates, Ahern continued.”

“This order is not a solution – it is irretrievably harmful to public safety and the communities we serve. We strongly support Governor Brown’s request to stay this order and have the State’s appeal heard by the U. S. Supreme Court.” ### Organization Founded by the Sheriffs in 1894 California State Sheriffs’ Association
