MICHELLE Obama dazzled Dublin with her grace and charm, and almost outshone her husband in Belfast with her eloquence, sounding every inch the professional politician. And that is exactly what could be on the cards for her.
The talk in Washington is that she is a politician-in-waiting with her eyes on a particular seat.
"She (Michelle) is only waiting for the right time," a Washington political insider told me. And 2016 would fit that bill.
By then, her husband will be ending his second term and she would have no campaigning constraints. And 2016 also happens to be the year that a US Senate seat will be up for grabs in her native state of Illinois.
Republican senator Mark Kirk, who won her husband's old seat there, is up for re-election that year and Mrs Obama would have little trouble getting the nod from the Democratic Party.
She would be a fundraising magnet with the power of the Obama political machine behind her. A poll has even been carried out on her chances in a hypothetical match-up against Mr Kirk. It had her leading 51pc to 40pc.
She would be a formidable candidate. A lawyer and an intellectual powerhouse, who excelled at Princeton and Harvard Law School, she first met her husband when she mentored him at a Chicago law firm.
She lacks political experience. But so did another first lady before she went on to become a US senator for New York.
Hillary Clinton has already blazed the trail for Mrs Obama, and what Mrs Clinton did in New York in 2000, Mrs Obama could do in Illinois in 2016.
Chicago is also the Obama political power base and it has a strong African-American electorate. Mrs Obama would also do well among Irish-American voters.

I read her paper from her Princeton years before it disappeared. It was a grievance topic and was unremarkable. But then, so was Hillary’s thesis.
If Sheila Jackson Lee can hold onto a seat in Congress, anybody can do it.
Mmmm. Just wow. I read her Princeton senior thesis. Intellectual powerhouse? Try nonsensical, trite, barely literate, and exuding a pompous, entitled attitude. And of course dull, to the point of unreadable.
A shocker, I know.
Libera1s in my family have regular debates on who should be the first female POTUS. Some say Hitlery, some say the wookie. Not one of those in the wookie’s corner can name a single qualification. Those who want Hitlery dismiss outright any suggestion that she is even remotely corrupt. liberals are stupid that way.

Her husband did nothing as a US senator or state senator before that. Shouldn’t be a problem.
Unless she ends up getting really fat, of course. Then she becomes a punchline like Jerrold Nadler.
She might turn out to be more conservative than Mark Kirk. She could commute between Hawaii and Wash DC, fly over ILL-ANNOY and do just fine. And our state is stupid enough to do it.

Voting is just a numbers game in Illinois. If every single person outside of Cook and Cook Suburbs counties voted against the Rats, the Rats could still just throw a number up from those counties to defeat them. There could be 1000% turnout in the Rat counties and it wouldn't be reported. Obama's election in '12 was the same way. He knew all along he would never lose. Pick a few counties in swing states to throw any number they need and its a guaranteed win. And the media will never report it. We are in a dictatorship.
She and Hank Johnson can get together for instructional sessions ... naw, fuggeddaboutit. Not enough grey cells between them to get anything straight.
