Would you be so kind as to show or link to this analysis? It would be very interesting to see how Zero won the “’Catholic’ popular vote”, but lost in the “’Catholic’ Electoral College”.

http://www.thecatholicthing.org/columns/2012/the-2012-catholic-vote-an-early-assessment.html

Catholics in California went 62-38.
Catholics in New York went 47-53.

Catholics are about a third of CA, so this represents about 10 million Catholics. If they went 62-38, that’s 6.2 million vs 3.8 million, or a gap of about 2.5 million people.

Catholics in the US are 25 percent of the population, so 75 million people.

Catholics in the US went 51/48 for Obama. Given the overall population at 75 million, that would mean 38 million Obama supporters and 36 million Romney supporters.

I think you can see the math here. ;) 2.5 million more Catholics voted for Obama than Romney, but with the nation as a whole excluding California, Romney did better than CA.

Looking at the EC - Ohio, NY, FL, PA, VA and NC all went for Romney. Catholics didn’t cost Romney the election.
