Rule #2 is (in reality) be careful what you wish for unless you've PREVIOUSLY arranged for adequate, or improved alternatives.
Rule #3 is (always) dance with the one(s) that brung you to the danged dance!!!
I was breaking rule 2, and you’re right to call me on it.
Sickoflibs has been reminding us about #2. None of the "conservatives" in the House seem to want Boehner's job, as SOL puts it "Obama's b****." And to be honest, for example, what would I do as Speaker if the only choices are
1) Get the House to vote for more spending
2) "Shut down the government" and face the political consequences. Maybe, an eloquent, skillful speaker could pull this off and get the people on board (the same voters who elected Obama twice in spite of all his crimes), by speaking over the screams of the media. But I can't put together the words "skillful" and "eloquent" with the name Boehner.
And, are there replacements for Boehner who would be even worse? Rhetorical question.
I told my congressman to vote against Boehner as speaker when the session started, but, maybe because of #2, he did not.
However, if I were Speaker, I would do anything and everything to kill amnesty. The consequences of its passage are orders of magnitude beyond any budget negotiation.
