Obama loses German hearts and minds ahead of Berlin visit

BERLIN—When Barack Obama last visited Berlin back in 2008, Constanze Fröhlich felt like she was part of history. “He was about to become the first black president—I wanted to support that,” the 35-year-old university researcher told Yahoo News. “It was really amazing so many people were there.” Back then, in a surprising outpouring of Teutonic affection for Obama, a euphoric crowd of 200,000 turned up to hear the Democratic presidential contender speak in the German capital. “People of the world: Look at Berlin, where a wall came down, a continent came together, and history proved that there is no challenge too great for a world that stands as one,” he told the rapturous masses. “This city, of all cities, knows the dream of freedom.” But five years later, Germany’s love affair with the U.S. president has gone cold. Obama can still expect Chancellor Angela Merkel to give him a grand reception on his official two-day visit. But his high-profile speech on Wednesday in front of the city’s Brandenburg Gate—almost exactly 50 years after John F. Kennedy’s historic “Ich bin ein Berliner” address—will be given to a vetted audience of only a few thousand. And it’s doubtful hundreds of thousands would have turned up to listen to Obama had it been open to the public anyway. Average Germans these days appear at best mildly disillusioned and at worst deeply angry with the man who promised hope and change. “I thought it was great that he became president. But there’s more distance now. He’s been consumed by daily politics,” said Fröhlich.

Too bad these scandals didn’t come to light last year , Zero wouldn’t be in the WH today.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And if google hadn't systematically and deliberately and maliciously "disappeared" over half a million hits on image searches for "obama birth certificate" in mid-July 2008, he might never have occupied in the White House in the first place.

"Don't Be Evil", my butt.

Putin, for all his flaws, is at least a patriot.

Because the entire population is dumbed down by Affirmative Action over the decades. Dumber and dumber by the year and incapable of serious thought.

“He was about to become the first black president—I wanted to support that”

So.... all of that "content of character, not the color of skin" stuff was just so much bullshit, right?

True. I read a good book called The Closing of the American Mind by Allan Bloom. He talks of the loss of critical thought in it.

Yes, we’ve spent decades compromising on the best & brightest, in preference to race quotas. People now care mostly about what makes them feel good about themselves and logic is rarely applied.

The way the pieces are being arrayed on the board makes me worry that obama will be this era’s Archduke Ferdinand.

Because the entire population is dumbed down by Affirmative Action over the decades. Dumber and dumber by the year and incapable of serious thought.

Wasn't much better during the 1980 campaign. My German neighbors pleaded with me to vote for Carter, because they were convinced Reagan would start WWIII. Fortunately, my German was conversational, as I was in my 3rd year of residence.

At the gasthauses I frequented, they gave me the opportunity to educate them on American civics/history.

When the American hostages were freed on Inauguration Day, they saw how right I was. Shortly after, I was invited to sit at the stammtisch at the gasthaus in my neighborhood. Back then, that was quite an honor, to be invited to sit at the table reserved for family and close friends of the family.

It didn't hurt that I was one of their best customers. ;)

I often spent 2-3 hours a day there after work, eating dinner and drinking a liter (or two) of Konigsbacher Pils. Not much else to do, as I was too far from base for American TV.

I basically went without TV for over 4 years...didn't mind it a bit.

And if Obama is offed, it won’t matter who did it, Right-Wing Conservatives will get the blame.

. “He was about to become the first black president—I wanted to support that,”

If people were voting to achieve a "First" then we should have elected Hillary. Unloading a can of black Rust-Oleum on her face would have given us 3 Firsts:

First black
First woman
First black woman

This is why I am extremely distrustful of Europeans as a group. Many of them are statist/leftists/fascists/collectivists. It is part of their DNA.

They grew out of feudalism. And THAT was an improvement for them. They are accustomed to their servitude in exchange for social "protection". All of the best minds got out and came here.

That’s because anyone who didn’t love Obama was a racist in 2008.

Germans could have a Black Muslim president/prime minister. All they have to do is vote for one. In fact, every European country could do so. Why were they so happy the USA was the first one to do so?

They didn't believe he was muslim in the same ways many of their own present-day muslim immigrants which infest their cities are, and they didn't think a black American would be a stealth totalitarian? That, and one and all underestimated the clown's muslim sympathies, mistaking the hopey-changey as their own best intentions towards others, including muslims.

Obama excelled at projecting himself as perfect template upon which those harboring resentments of every stripe (other than U.S. conservative) could project their very own "best intentions". Far too many thought he actually stood for something. He may have, but it wasn't their best intentions.
