She claimed that her computer(s) would turn on in the middle of the night.
Could be Microsoft and Windows. Win7 will do that, if it is in standby mode, even if updates are turned off. I notice occasionally on my desktop and laptop forced Windows upgrades, even though I have auto-update turned off.
Of course, MS was one of those said to be in thick with the FED for backdoor access. I recall comments and articles pre-Win7 claming that Win7 would have backdoor access built into it.

I have my Tom Tom GPS plugged to my computer to keep it charged, that will bring my computer out sleep once in awhile when it activates by itself.
