I have to admit that the dialogue sounds like Snowden. But I’m still mystified as to how he has (or if he really has) escaped being found (and possibly controlled) by the Chinese government.
I don’t see anyway that we can be assured one way or another as to whether his answers are being filtered by the Chinese. Probably not. But the fact is that his answers certainly benefit the Chinese. He is really arguing the far left view that NSA should not be monitoring foreigners on a broad scale anymore that Americans. The Chinese would certainly support that view.
Others have made suggestions why, but it's pretty clear in his answer regarding Wikileaks, if you read his between the lines.
He believes that he is only disclosing things he believes are in the public interest. He is specifically withholding any information about "US operations against legitimate military targets".
Wikileaks dumped a bunch of unredacted information because someone screwed up. That wasn't their intent (the group, not necessarily Assange). Snowden appears to want to prevent this from occurring again.
Tweet: Edward, there is rampant speculation, outpacing facts, that you have or will provide classified US information to the Chinese or other governments in exchange for asylum. Have/will you?
Snowden: "This is a predictable smear that I anticipated before going public, as the US media has a knee-jerk "RED CHINA!" reaction to anything involving HK or the PRC, and is intended to distract from the issue of US government misconduct. Ask yourself: if I were a Chinese spy, why wouldn't I have flown directly into Beijing? I could be living in a palace petting a phoenix by now."
He seems quite certain that the Chinese are really "Good Guys". Question for Snowden that should be asked: What if the Chinese get to read that Thumb Drive in your pocket?
He probably went to China, not because he thinks they are good guys, but because they are another super power that won’t bow to the US.
I don't think he is that naive. However, I do understand his rationale for going to China.
He wanted a place where he felt safe from the US Government until he could immunize himself from covert or diplomatic action. Earlier in he interview, he said that he wasn't sure that Iceland could stand up to pressure long enough for him to do so.
He’s probably in the White House. Wouldn’t surprise me if this is another 0bama ‘false flag’ to subvert America’s credibility by sabotaging our foreign relationships and world standing, bringing us one notch closer to collapse. It’s all about collapse. Then he can declare Martial Law oh goodie.
Well...so far he hasn’t revealed anything he thinks the government is hiding not already known. All governments to this and they know they do.
This guy is doing far more harm then any help he believes...and fast showing he’s more than a defector....by his actions he’s showing his purpose is far more than just revealing Government spying....he’s playing on a gameboard he hasn’t a clue about.
I really have no doubt now this guy is way in over his head...and a traitor.
Yep.
For all the “conservatives” here who want to carp about Snowden’s tactics, they’re completely missing the fact that Snowden has the press reporting, breathlessly, what he sources.
Snowden offered this information to the Washington Compost, and they dragged their feet. The Compost probably informed the government about the leak. Snowden took appropriate and prudent measures to a) keep himself alive, b) and get the information out, without the press interfering, c) keep the press “cycle” churning in his favor.
Obama is now paying a political price for this crap. Obama’s approval dropped 8%, disapproval rose 9%, in a CNN poll, over the last month. And the biggest change is among YOUNG PEOPLE. Just as I predicted, young people live online. Young people know more about computing and social networking than the old farts in either party.
If it’s a “false flag,” it’s costing Obama quite a bit in the polling.
If this ISN’T a ‘false flag’, how about, “Hey Snowden, does the NSA have the goods on 0bama?.. Is his birth certificate legit? Did he ever REALLY graduate to Columbia? Is he using Harrison J. Bounel’s Social Security Number?”
Martial Law trumps polling. He ain’t goin’ anywhere, regardless of favorability and he knows it.
He’s gaming the press cycle.
The press loses attention. The American public can’t keep their attention on one thing for a very long time without being reminded.
If you really want to effect change, then you “pulse” this information into the press, to keep the story high up on the press’ agenda every night.
He’s played this very well. He understands that there’s about a seven day news cycle now, and he’s pulsing information into the press about every four to five days.
That’s true, but it’s not a false flag op.
This deal is finally starting to crimp Obama’s polling. The more it crimps Obama’s polling, the bigger the opportunity for Tea Party and other real conservatives in the 2014 races.
Good luck with that.
Is that a thumb drive in your pocket or are you happy to see me?
I base my opinion on whose ox is getting the most gored.
mwuhahahah
Eddie is being naive. Of course, they won't shut them down, but these companies are operated as predatory monopolies. If they don't cooperate, they are threatened with anti-trust scrutiny.
Just because the FCC has been deaf, dumb, and blind when it comes to corporate media does not mean that they could not be instructed by Commissars of the Police State to start attending to the business that are pretending to do.
He is quite certain as he said when the story broke that he will never see home again.
When you become a man without a country, good guys and bad guys become nearly irrelevant terms.
I imagine everyone's experience is different, but for me, there was no single moment. It was seeing a continuing litany of lies from senior officials to Congress - and therefore the American people - and the realization that that Congress, specifically the Gang of Eight, wholly supported the lies that compelled me to act. Seeing someone in the position of James Clapper - the Director of National Intelligence - baldly lying to the public without repercussion is the evidence of a subverted democracy. The consent of the governed is not consent if it is not informed.
