Iran is a separate but clearly one of a primary targets for Al-Qaeda.
No matter how ugly Iran’s regime is, I wish them luck in kicking Al-Qaeda and Wahhabi as well.
Relativism is at play again. Iran is a much lesser evil again.

The best place to fight a war is on somebody else’s real estate. Does a lot to preserve most of your own assets and provides a buffer zone. Also, Syria becomes a forward launch zone for a strike against Israel.
Consider the faux war that was the “Spanish Civil War” of the 1930’s. The Axis powers (Germany and Italy) managed to refine their tactics and train their troops, while fighting a shadow war with the Soviet Union, which also was doing a little preparatory work for an upcoming much wider conflict.
