Back in the 1970’s I would accept the mainstream media’s characterization of someone as a “conservative” and then get burned when they said or did something different.

Now we’ve got talk show hosts saying guys like Rubio and Ryan are “conservative” and I get a laugh out of it because I’m not being fooled anymore.

The mask is off and all the tough speeches and YES votes on phony symbolic bills or NO votes on bad bills that end up getting passed anyway mean nothing to me.

Over 90 percent of the Republican elected officials are phonies with no principles.

Those 70 or so folks who are challenging Boehner on amnesty for illegal immigrants are just putting on a smoke blowing show to make it look good for us folks back home and help win their primaries next year.

I will not vote for my GOP Congressman in the primary or general election next year because he is a phony who supported Boehner for Speaker in the first place.

I am still developing a sense of what a Conservative is.  We should all evaluate such things as we mature.  Some folks don't.  That's a shame, and a national disgrace.  I voted for the Republican in all elections, but I was fooled by slight of hand a lot.  I didn't realize how Left Nixon was.  Other Republicans of the day were problematic as I grew up.  It wasn't until the early 1990s that I began to see things more clearly, and realized I still had a lot to learn.

I agree.  And the real shame is, Ryan (the younger) has some great instincts.  Unfortunately he has bitten off a big mouth full of B. S. in this immigration debate IMO.  I'm glad you're not fooled anymore.  At least you're asking the right questions.

They should mean something to you.  We should give credit where credit is due, and be skeptical knowing what we know.  I don't have a problem with giving Clinton some credit if he does the right thing.  I have been known to do so a time or two.  I wouldn't overplay it though.  I gave a very qualified approval on the point only.

I have come to that conclusion also.

To be honest, I think some of them are serious.  I honestly can't say how many of them are just blowing smoke.  I fear it's a lot more of them than I would like to think it is.

If he's in the general, I'd support voting for him.  I would do everything in my power to make sure he wasn't though.  I understand your thoughts on it, and I have withheld my vote due to Republican intransegence.
