Rubio: We need to legalize immigrants so they can pay for border security
Washington Examiner ^ | 6/13/13 | Byron York

Why is it necessary to legalize the roughly 11 million currently-illegal immigrants in the U.S. before newly enhanced border security and internal enforcement measures are in place? Sen. Marco Rubio, the leading Republican on the Senate’s Gang of Eight, says part of the reason is that the federal government can’t afford to secure the border on its own and needs financial help from the immigrants themselves, in the form of fines paid when they are legalized.

Rubio made the statement during a radio interview after he voted against an amendment from Republican Sen. Charles Grassley that would have put off legalization until after the border is secure — a position supported by majorities of voters across the political spectrum. Host Andrea Tantaros asked Rubio why he opposed something that was important “to so many in the Republican party?”

Third parties always fail in our two party system. Better the conservatives control the local elections at the state level and build a base to take over the Republican party.

It ain't rocket surgery.

There will be some provision slipped in to grant some kind of hardship waiver for the ones that can't afford the fines. The waivers will be handed out by liberal political appointees and bureaucrats who don't want that fence to get built. There won't be any fence.

Rubio: We need to legalize immigrants so they can pay for border security.

Later Rubio suggested hiring illegals as border agents.

The murderers of America have their rifles loaded and aimed. The passing of amnesty will be when the trigger is pulled.

Why not just put em in chain gangs and let them build it to work off their crimes?

Exactly.

They supposedly came here because they were so poor. They supposedly now have low paying jobs “Americans won’t do”, many don’t pay taxes and Rubio wants us to believe they will willingly pay a fine and start paying taxes?

And that’s just the supposed hard working otherwise law abiding illegal aliens. What about the criminals, gang members and terrorists. Does Rubio really think these types will suddenly jump on the legal band wagon.

He is a fool.

OMG and where are these illegals going to get the money to pay their fines? Selling their food stamps maybe? The food stamps all of us taxpayers pay for?

All the border protection in the world won't stop illegal workers. Not being able to work will stop illegal workers. Requiring e-verify and penalizing those that employ illegals will stop illegal labor. I live in an area with abundant border protection, but the Border Patrol aren't allowed to pick up illegals working the farms around here.

The locals used to request "translation assistance" from BP, which was code for, we picked up a gangbanger who doesn't speak English and we want him deported please. DHS put out a policy prohibiting BP offering that assistance.

The result of this bill will be 20 million more poor welfare voters, depressed wages, and a bigger Border Patrol that isn't allowed to enforce the law.

I heard him on Hannity the other day saying this and could not believe what I was hearing...not that I’ve agreed with a number of the things he’s said on this issue, but it at least seemed like was some logic in what he was trying to say ... then came this. It was incoherent...like he doesn’t want to admit this bill is trash and is desperately clinging onto it.

I also don’t get the logic of this “legalization” issue...as if you just pass this bill, and everyone comes forward and puts themselves on record. Why would they do that - and how would they be forced to do so? If we can’t force them onto the record now, how could we do so then - even with the “legalization” carrot dangling out there? Especially for criminals which Rubio and others claim we need to identify - what, are they just expected to voluntarily come forward and identify themselves as well? Nothing would force any of them “out of the shadows” just because a new bill is passed and signed. This whole thing makes now sense.

When I think about how I spoke with him face to face early in the Senate campaign before Charlie Crist jumped in and how he fooled a whole room full of people, it makes me sick!!! It’s not really like there was any kind of alternative choice with Crist in the race. He’s already switched parties. However, immigration might not have been a priority with him!

Many of these people just got off an airplane with a visa and then after it ran out, just stayed.

Seems like an unreliable revenue stream to me. The incomes of so many illegals would be low enough to land them among the 47% that pay no federal income tax at all.

The illegals are, for the most part, here to take money and send it to their home countries, not invest it in our country. "Enviar dinero."

Rubio didn't “play” us. He is a politician who finally tipped his hand and revealed what he believes in. It is our responsibility as a voter to research and observe the politics of politicians who call themselves “conservatives.” And Rubio is but one so-called Conservative politician we must keep our eyes on.
