Why should W-M be any different than any other company that is trying to keep costs down and maximize profits? (Rhetorical question)

They always hire temps. This is not new.

Rhetorical question?

OK, I’ll bite: Because hiring permanent employees makes about as much sense as contracting to have a minefield laid outside your front gate?

"Wal-Mart denies is tied to cutting costs"

Hiring temps ISN'T about CUTTING costs.

It's about AVOIDING COST INCREASES.

0bamaCare demands that employers spend more on healthcare than they used to, unless the employee works fewer hours. Or you get temps who work fewer hours, or whatever. So, Walmart is just avoiding a cost increase.

The burdensome regulations and senseless rules imposed by the Obama regime makes Wal-Mart’s strategy completely logical. It’s the way to survive under the current war against free enterprise.

Now if WalMart was really smart, they'd use only Contract workers from a third-party agency.

Zero benefits for Contract Workers, and the third-party agency would either have to (a)provide the benefits for them or (b)cycle the employees every 6 months to avoid having to provide insurance or having to pay the IRS penalty.

This is undoubtedly where "part time" work is going in this country. No part-time labor will be direct-hire, they'll all be Contract workers on temporary assignment via a third-party agency.

Yep, gotta love that Obamacare!

I once worked for a company like that, but as an HR person, I was permanent, full-time and made a decent living. It’s the new normal.

“Duh.”

Yeah, duh! Where have these people been? They shouldn’t even be showing their ignorance by asking the question in a news article.
