In March, Providence, R.I., AmeriCorps members at the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence hosted a hip hop/poetry competition.
Members of a Nevada AmeriCorps program busy themselves these days by encouraging local residents to drink tap water and watch out for bears ("bear awareness").
AmeriCorps members in Austin, Texas, hosted a trivia night in April at a local bar called Cheer Up Charlie's to whip up enthusiasm for public service.

It isn't just public radio and public television, or the endless, mindless grants to university professors, nor the tax benefits running to left-wing institutions like Ford or Rockefeller, it is federal agency after federal agency both pure government and quasi-government, that shape the culture before every election.
If culture trumps politics, and I think it does, Republicans are permitting Democrats to beat us with our own money.
Incidentally, culture and politics combined will eventually trump the Constitution.
Silver lining is they sound like a group of people far too stupid and lazy to make an effective Brown Shirt Army.
