Honeywell has announced a new Wi-Fi-controlled thermostat that is intended to be distributed by municipalities instead of purchased at retail by consumers in order to better manage energy consumption across a town or city.
South Sioux City, Neb., will be the first community to deploy the new thermostat to help its 13,000 residents manage electricity costs, which are said to have risen steadily there in the past three years.
In the future, other municipalities will recruit residents to reduce energy consumption when demand spikes, a strategy known as automated demand response, or ADR.
As part of this, the residents would receive the $150 Honeywell Total Connect Comfort with ADR thermostat for free so that utilities can link to the home devices and reduce that residence's energy as needed.
Such an approach can help avoid brownouts and blackouts on the hottest days of the year, when power-grid stability is threatened.
Honeywell's thermostat can be controlled with a Total Connect Comfort app, available in versions for Apple iOS and Google Android devices.
Honeywell is based in Morris Township, N.J., but its division responsible for the Total Connect Comfort technology is based in Golden Valley.
> “help its 13,000 residents manage electricity costs”
Hmm interesting way to say the path to the Agenda 21 “Safe Streets” campaign is in gear and not only are we about to tell you what temperature it can be in your home but what you can eat, drink, what type vehicles you can drive, etc... After that, your homes are now considered government property (even though you are still required to pay the mortgage and taxes).
We let a young naive brainwashed college educated bunch of jerks put us into this situation. Nuke time.
And after they have foisted these things on the country, there will no doubt be a list of account numbers they are prohibited from "adjusting" - belonging to the upper crust, government officials and politicians.
Maybe Roto Rooter can develop a machine to wipe everybody’s asses with only one square.?
And when it’s later discovered that these thermostats have a built-in listening device, then what?
Not in my home. Never. Ever.
When we built our home a year ago power companies were offering large incentives to let them install a “smart meter” to allow them to control your electric output to “ help you stay in budget” needless to say we declined.
The NSA detected “patriot” and “tea party” in your emails.
So we’re turning your heat off.
Bump to country living. I don’t have to burn my garbage as there’s a county dump nearby.
But I can do what ever else I need to do. Burn yard refuse, shoot my guns, what ever.
Free Thermostat. Also included free mini-web cam and microphone. No extra charge for drone monitoring.

In our case there is not a lot to burn. We compost and any tin cans can be dropped off in one of those recycle bins. The small amount of glass I just take with me to work in a wal-mart plastic bag and dump it at the gas station when I fill up. The whole process is actually much more convenient than dragging our trash cans 1/4 mile down our road for pickup.
All I burn is paper and plastic. And even then, only rarely...
The NEST Thermostat has them running scared
No water meter here. It's called a well.
This part kills me more than anything. There's no way to account for the status of the windows in a home. Single-paned, double-hung windows in a 30 year old house are going to leak conditioned air like a sieve. What if the homeowners have their doors and windows open?
I wouldn't be surprised if this was a big scam to drum up business for A/C repair and manufacturers. They crank the air down for you, your compressor and condenser are going constantly, they break sooner.
Land of the free my freaking foot.
After they control your heat, next will be electricity altogether. And then food, and then water, and then oxygen. Sorry comrade, your oxygen ration has been turned down this month due to some unpleasant things you said about the administration last week. We all hope you make it to next month!!
I live in such a small town its like being in the country. 150 people with pretty much every backyard being country. I look out the window and see my neighbor’s horses.
We have 2 swamp coolers NOT on thermostats and if they ever do this I will have individual air conditioners put in each room. There are pretty nice systems for that now. We could replace our central unit now anyway because of age. This would be my incentive.
What happens if you put in a few manually controlled window AC units to augment your state controlled central AC unit?
>> Will it work with my wood burning stove?
>> Nope, but the EPA will soon have an answer for that.
Yeah, and here’s the EPA answer:
“Freeze in the dark.”
Honeywell (actually Allied-Signal - A-S bought Honeywell about a decade ago just to get a new name to hide behind) over the last 25 years has destroyed what at one time was arguably the #1 aircraft-instrument company in the entire world (Sperry Gyroscope), absolutely driving it into the ground.
>>>Whats next, government controlled flushers for your toilets?>>>
SHISHHHHHHHH! Don’t give them any more ideas.
