Belgian Parliament Posed To Approve Child Euthanasia Law

A consensus among members of the legislative body has reportedly formed in support of legislation to allow children to choose to undergo euthanasia in certain dire cases, according to a report in the Belgian daily newspaper Der Morgen, as translated by the Paris-based news agency Presseurop.

If child euthanasia is legalized in Belgium, the country would become the first in the developed world to have a law on the books allowing the practice, although the Netherlands has since 2005 not prosecuted doctors who perform euthanasia on some minors as long as the doctors act in accordance with a set of medical guidelines dubbed the Groningen Protocol.

This is horrible. I can understand the thinking behind a case where an adult who can make rational decisions and be responsible for them make such a decision in dire circumstances. I'm against all forms of euthanasia, even in the case of my last sentence, I'm just saying I do understand the argument behind it even if I am opposed to it. When it comes to children, especially under 13 to 16 depending on the case and situation (although as a right leaning libertarian, responsibility and the teaching thereof should start at a young age), they cannot make such dire life and death decisions like that nor can they comprehend the gravity behind them.

Also, this is a slippery slope as we can see here in this case. First it's the "terminally ill," then old people, then kids with deformities, then you end up with the ability to take a person's life unwillingly. That is immoral and unethical.

I know I get into some trouble from time to time, being a hard-core libertarian, but I'm very pro-life. First the person is given his/her life by God and no one should take it away besides Him plus without life, there is no liberty.

Then there will be those cases where the child disagrees but the Death Panel overrides the decision ..... and we all know the Death Panel always has the “final” word.
