This puts quite a different spin on last weeks question about possible perjury by the Director of National Intelligence after the exposure of the NSAs PRISM and BLARNEY programs, doesnt it? While we didnt necessarily assume that Senator Ron Wydens question came out of the blue to James Clapper in March Wyden has long professed public concern about the NSA and its activities we didnt know that Wyden had in fact warned Clapper a full day in advance that it would be asked. Not only that, but Wyden also offered Clapper an opportunity to amend the answer for the record afterward:
Tuesday, June 11, 2013
Washington, D.C. U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) issued the following statement regarding statements made by the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper about collection on Americans. Wyden is a senior member of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
One of the most important responsibilities a Senator has is oversight of the intelligence community. This job cannot be done responsibly if Senators arent getting straight answers to direct questions. When NSA Director Alexander failed to clarify previous public statements about domestic surveillance, it was necessary to put the question to the Director of National Intelligence. So that he would be prepared to answer, I sent the question to Director Clappers office a day in advance. After the hearing was over my staff and I gave his office a chance to amend his answer. Now public hearings are needed to address the recent disclosures and the American people have the right to expect straight answers from the intelligence leadership to the questions asked by their representatives.

I never thought there would be someone DUMBER than Wyden in Govt., but here comes CLAPPER filling that post!!! DUMB or EVIL?? BOTH maybe.
Sorry for the link, but worthy of consideration, IMO.

The details about the NSA’s second frighteningly Big Brother-ish data-mining program have been sidelined by the talk of PRISM, but it’s worth paying a bit more attention to the NSA initiative that was first leaked to the public last week. BLARNEY, the NSAs phone surveillance program, captures metadata from communication, while PRISM obtains the actual content of the correspondence. Thus, many might approve of the use of BLARNEY while condemning the tactics of PRISM.
We have seen a strategic and deliberate doublespeak in which defense of the NSAs activity attempts to reassure the public by describing the limitations of BLARNEY, when that is an entirely separate system from PRISM. Thus, if one wished, they could defend the actions of PRISM by explaining the limitations of BLARNEY and failing to explain the two are very different programs. Understanding that the two are separate is crucial to making sense of the coming debate.
A lie told while under sworn testimony is still perjury.
If you dont punish perjury in front of COngress , than all perjurys should be forgiven.
These people are either too damn ignorant to be in public service or too damn disdainful of the laws. Or....both.
I concur but my foundations are rocked from the realization that I am rooting for him here.
“I gave Clapper that question a day in advance of his untruthful answer”
And just WHY was he giving anyone the questions in advance????????????????
Bfl
The gov has a language IT doesn’t even understand. There is no way this government works. It is so out of control and rogue, you can’t even trust your own mother...not that I ever did.
I could tell you stories...and I can tell you why no matter how hard you try to maintain anonymity, sometime, some place, you are going to trust someone and that will be your undoing.
As a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, Wyden was privy to the answer, as the Committee had been involved in allowing the collection of phone intelligence.
Wyden knew the correct answer, and was sworn to secrecy about the subject!
But this putz gets in front of the microphone to force the person who told him about the phone program, Clapper, to force him to either lie under oath, or disclose the program that he too, had been sworn to secrecy.
Wyden the a-hole should be recalled!
Very helpful, thanks
Thanks Maggie! Something to watch in the coming political spin and doublespeak for sure.
Agree..these are going to get lumped together and they shouldn’t.
I know The Guardian has its own agenda- but I wish they’d get on with it and get the rest out.
Drip drip drip. All summer. Hope he has a link to one of the scandles. Like Bengauzie information
A conversation between_______&________?
"Sworn to secrecy". I keep seeing this over and over. So fricking what?
Tell me, which oath remains Supreme?
..................Tell me, which oath remains Supreme?................
The oath of a moral man!
If you are sworn to secrecy, and you’re too scared/chicken/intimated to expose the secret truth that you know about,
Why in hell should you try to expose your source of the secret information by forcing another who is also sworn to secrecy, into breaking his oath??
The RAT Senator is scum - maybe Clapper is also, but Clapper was set up by this scumbag!
