OAK RIDGE Small bottles of brightly colored fingernail polish are lined up neatly on Marcel Neergaards dresser in his room, the décor of which he describes as having a disco dancey feeling to it.
Posters of young male celebrities Justin Bieber among them are on the walls.
Marcel uses eyeliner on occasion and puts on the nail polish when he wants to feel special, says his father, Mike Neergaard.
Marcel is 11 years old and gay.

When I was 11 & wanted to “feel special” we went out & played a game. Any game. Baseball, football, kick the can.
I guess today kick the can has a new meaning.
Bullshit! On his own, he would not even know what being a queer entailed. In a just world, the father would be arrested and jailed for aiding and abetting child molestionation.

I completely agree
I’m sure Dan Savage would love to teach the pre-teen all about anal love.
Oh and who would name a kid “Marcel” in the rural south and not expect issues?
I upbraided someone the other day for naming his kid “Magnum” and not expecting trouble. Sheesh, what’s wrong with naming them Dennis, Brian, John, Michael, Kevin—just a normal name, instead of some name that is obviously going to give them trouble.
Yeah. The inmates are now running the asslyum.
I cannot imagine what is wrong with his parents. Tragic for the kid.
I’m confused. There’s a campaign out there to “Don’t Say Gay”, but the homosexuals use it to describe themselves. Why is it okay for them to call themselves gay, but you can’t use it?
These people are so twisted.
I’m betting that this boy was molested as a child by a man.
Sorry, but I no longer give a smelly Obama about that boy...or what he chooses to put into his own personal smelly septic Obama.
Get a room and shut the f*** up.
Oye Ve!!! :-)
IMHO, and I'll put on my flame retardant suit here, all of the "anti-bullying" propaganda that's currently en vogue is more damaging than the bullying itself.
Kids need to learn how to deal with people who will push them around, or who don't have their best interests at heart. Learning to push back - like your daughter, or my youngest - is a valuable skill to have.
What will the sheltered kids do as adults when they need to deal with a pushy salesman? Or a power-tripping public sector worker? Or a boss/co-worker making demands that are a little unreasonable? Will they look for a grownup to mediate?
The kid needs therapy not laws to protect him.
11 and knows he is homosexual? BS!
that poor kid has some bad influences in his life. He shouldn’t even be thinking about orientation until 13 14 or older.
I lived in Oak Ridge for several years. It is a government town with jobs dominated by federal employers. As such, it is a liberal cesspool in otherwise conservative East Tennessee.
Like Joan Cusak said in Working Girl, “I sometime dance around my room in my underwear, that doesn’t make me Madonna, never will.”
This kid is going to get a rude awakening when he hits on the wrong guy.

What can you expect when the president himself is a pansy?
“Marcel is 11 years old and gay.”
No, Marcel is 11 years old and confused. His family should be helping him overcome this confusion and seeing if this confusion has been brought on by some kind of trauma.
At 11-years-old he should not even be sexual yet. At the very least he is confusing his adoration of feminine things as being homosexual. If he is actually sexually aroused by males then someone needs to figure out how he has become sexualized at 11-years-old.
