Recorded: IRS Agent Telling Non-Profit To Keep Faith To Themselves
Townhall ^ | 06/10/2013 | Erik Stanley

Texas-based Pro-Life Revolution applied for 501(c)3 status with the IRS in January 2011--they received that status some 900 days later, on June 6, 2013 in a letter dated May 19. In the interim, they received letters asking for clarification and "more information," and a March 2012 phone call in which IRS agent Sherry Wan told Pro-Life Revolution President Ania Joseph how the IRS expects tax-exempt groups to act, think, and speak.

In a legally recorded call 14 months into an application process that was supposed to last no more than 270 days, Wan told Joseph:

You cannot force your religion or force your beliefs on somebody else…. You have to know your boundaries. You have to know your limits. You have to respect other people’s beliefs.

The agent went on to say she stresses neutrality on issues because she works for the IRS, and therefore, has "to stick with the law."

Mind you, this is the IRS telling a private citizen how they should or shouldn't, can or can't, speak or act when it comes to exercising their First Amendment freedoms.

If you think such an accusation is a bridge too far, consider that it appears the agent also told Joseph she'd be allowed to reach out to women--including handing them a pro-life brochure—but, if she wants a tax exemption, she ought to play nice with abortion clinics:

You convince them. But when you take a lot of action…for example, when you, you know, go to, you know, the abortion clinic, and you found them [unintelligible], we don’t want, you know, to come against them. You can’t take all kinds of confrontation activities and also put something on a website and ask people to take action against the abortion clinic. That’s not, that’s not really educational.

Again, this is an IRS agent telling a private citizen how her group can and can't act, what they can and can't say or do.

But don’t fall for any excuses that may come again about this being a “rogue” agent. To be charitable to Wan, I’m sure she’s simply following her training—training that apparently taught her to base her arguments to Pro-Life Revolution on a law overturned by a federal appeals court in D.C. during the Carter administration.

Toward the end of the conversation, Wan told Joseph: "When you conduct religious activities, meanwhile you have to respect other people's beliefs, other people's religion. You cannot [go]...against other groups or devalue other groups, other people's beliefs. OK?"

In other words, if you want a tax-exempt status, you need only be sure you stand for nothing and say the same.

The agent needs retraining and her supervisor needs to be fired and permanently banned from any government job.

The Bill of Rights means very little to the IRS, America’s answer to the old Soviet KGB.

I just bet if it was a homosexual or lesbian org. or an pro-abortion group she would have been extremely polite and offered to help them hand out pamphlets. I would have told her to do her darn job and leave the Lord to those who WON’T be left behind.

This is obamas admin, the most corrupt in history.

Glad to see some fleshing out of that story. Now we know the parties to the dispute.

Notice, though, they got approved.

One of the commenters on a PJ thread said to notice that all the agents named in the IRS scandals worked for a single manager named Cindy Thomas who has worked or IRS for 35 years.

In a search for a picture of Cindy, or the Wan woman, I discovered they never have a picture out there that associates them with the IRS ~ and I suspect many of them have no pictures at all on the net.

The reason or that is that when you work in a regulator operation like that you make, rightly or wrongly, real enemies!

Keep in mind that the correspondence control system IRS uses to track and control cases the top bosses can go in on their own and CHANGE words in the text of letters going out to applicants or supplicants. It is possible much of the more troublesome questioning was inserted without the analyst's knowledge.

So far the GOP, and more particular, the House are the most stupid bunch of Republicans in the history of America. The communists are working to make sure that the Tea Parties do not get 501(c)3 before the 2014 elections. This stall is to make sure that they cannot get the contributions they need to participate in supporting their candidate. The house should defund the IRS and demand the certification be backdated to 2013.

It wasn’t. It was stolen. See my long standing tag line. Finally Rush has even started calling it a coup d’etat.

Illegals voting, voting machines rigged, legals voting multiple times, incoherent people bused to the polls and told how to vote, voter suppression (after “you doth protest too much” about this by the rats) which was assigned to the IRS, the media and our so called teachers and the unions. And then there was the attack on Romney by the left that convinced a fair number of conservatives that Romney wouldn’t have been any better than zero. Yeah, right.

If the election had been fair it’s hard to see how Romney would have lost.

Romney engaged in unfair and unethical actions during the primaries. If he hadn’t he’d had more campaign workers in Virginia. Then he’d won. Instead he thought it better to lose the interest of the voters early, which he did.

Whos side are you on NOW?
You are being petty and vindictive and not at all helpful.
When is the last time you did anything to promote a conservative or, at a time like this, when have you done something to HURT the Democrats or Obama?
