Egypt Warns All Options Open for Ethiopia Nile Dam

Egypt's president on Monday hardened his stance against Ethiopia and its construction of a Nile dam, warning that "all options are open" in dealing with the project that threatens to leave Egypt with a dangerous water shortage.

Speaking in a live televised speech before hundreds of supporters, Mohammed Morsi said Egypt is not calling for war, but it is willing to confront any threats to its water security.

"If it loses one drop, our blood is the alternative," he said to a raucous crowd of largely Islamist supporters that erupted into a standing ovation.

...

In the conference hall where Morsi delivered his speech, some of his supporters chanted slogans against Israel and accused it of colluding with Ethiopia to harm Egypt. Blaming Israel for Egypt's problems is common here. Israel denied any connection to the construction of the dam.

There is one thing on Planet Earth, and one thing ONLY, which Moslems enjoy more than killing non-Moslems, and that is killing other Moslems.

The phrase “mental illness” is utterly insufficient.

No, not really. I imagine Ethoipa at the least has planned basic water usages for cities and towns and for irrigation. But, aside from those usages, in that hot, dry region a significant amount of the stored lake water would be lost to simple evaporation.

My area of North Georgia (Atlanta) is in a running legal battle with Alabama and Florida for the rights to the water raining on and flowing from North Georgia to regions down stream. I’m a simple man and see the water “belonging” first to those upon whom the water falls from the sky.

Using the above logic, much of Southern Kalifornia would be arid and barren. Kali gets their water from the Colorado River, so we see that where water is concerned, the money and political connections win out.

The Egyptians have known for fifty years that the Israelis have a great big bullseye drawn on the Aswan High Dam. The 1973 Arab-Israeli war came to a sudden ceasefire not because of Henry Kissinger but because the Israelis were about to bomb the High Dam.

Israel is the silent ally of Ethiopia. If the Christian Abyssinians want their dam, they’ll get their dam. The Egyptian military may not fear Addis Ababa, but they’re not ready for a fifth clockcleaning by the IDF since 1948.

Egypt pretty much exists entirely because of the Nile - and they are running out of money to subsidize food, so they can’t afford mass desalinization.
A modest decrease or temporary disruption in their water supply is a disaster.

Won’t make much of a difference because when the goat herders attach Israel, they will nuke the Aswan Dam and leave them thirsty anyway.

This is a very interesting development and it shows a trend for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Morsi has tons of US military equipment massed since 1979. (thanks Jimmuh Cartuh).
Egypt has US F-16s and M-1 Abrams tanks and a military, unfortunately trained by the USA since 1979. This just may be the dress rehearsal for an eventual attack on Israel.

Morsi, like Mussolini before him, needs a pretext to blast an opponent and try out all that neat hardware they have been storing for 30 years.

His new Islamist military is just itching to use this stuff and overwhelm a weaker supposed adversary. Once the trounce Ethiopia, they will be on a high and prep themselves for another massive and future campaign against Israel. All this with the ongoing aid and support from the White House while Morsi shows open antagonism towards Israel, the US and the West in general.

Al this made possible by the white House handing over Mubarak to the Egyptian wild animal masses. Let's watch Morsi act on Mussolini, circa 1935.

Ethiopian Orthodox 43.5%, Muslim 33.9%, Protestant 18.6%, traditional 2.6%, Catholic 0.7%, other 0.7% (2007 Census)

By the time Egypt is done with them the figures will be Moslem, 99%, lucky ones or those skilled at hiding out, 1%.

Egypt doesn't have much oil. Their economy was based on agriculture (including cotton) and tourism. The Muslim Brotherhood have killed the tourist industry, leaving agriculture, which consumes water.
