Verizon, the phone company whose disclosure of customer data to the federal government is at the center of the furor over cooperation by technology companies with top-secret national security programs, has offered a precise, clear, but little-noticed public explanation of why it did what it did. The Verizon explanation is not in the vague and cryptic memo the company issued last week after the Guardian exposed its program. It came, instead, in the companys annual filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, included in Verizons annual report to shareholders.

Right, did I miss the part of the filing that said we have agreed to turn over every phone call, email, etc?
I thought the Sun went out of business, or was it just the print edition?
Do you think they are maybe pointing a finger to tell you where to look for all communication companies so they are not the only one in this mess and losing customers???

XZ’s notice did not provide any info. what was of interest was the statement about dedicated fiber to VZ’s operations center. This sounds like access to call and billing type data and not content itself. what I want to know is if they have access to content itself without a subpoena. I doubt it.
