The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell.
The Guardian, after several days of interviews, is revealing his identity at his request. From the moment he decided to disclose numerous top-secret documents to the public, he was determined not to opt for the protection of anonymity. "I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong," he said.
Snowden will go down in history as one of America's most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the world's most secretive organisations the NSA.
In a note accompanying the first set of documents he provided, he wrote: "I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions," but "I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant."

If you help terrorists you are a whistleblower. If you help the people you are a traitor.
Daniel Ellsberg coming up on CNN.
Doesn’t matter what the issue is. If you have a high security clearance, you can’t just go talking to anyone about what you know just because you think they should know. That is not for you to decide. If you don’t like it, surrender your badge and find another job.
Both parties have totally misread the mood of the electorate. The incumbents will pay for it big in 2014 & 2016.
I think we will see a bunch of retirements on The Hill. Right after they cram amnesty down our throats. This is looking like 2010 all over again.
Peter King became a dirt bag when he blasted those who opposed his pork laden Sandy relief bill.
A phone book don’t record who you call, how often, and the length of the conversation, like the Feds do.
It’s not a “liberal point of view” if you don’t support the ploicies of the Bush clan, exactly.
There have been a few candidates outside the establishment.
I agree. Those defending and siding with Obama on this are now on the side of tyranny. The government has no right to spy on your every thought, call, click etc.
I think a whole lot of Republicans are going to be very surprised when they get thrown out of office for tool-like taking the side of The Regime on this massive over-reach, arrogance and dismissiveness on blanket spying on innocent citizens.
If we can’t trust the Regime’s IRS with our personal political views and health care then we can’t trust the Regime with ANYTHING!
“Those willing to sacrifice liberty for a little security - deserve neither”
How many times do we need to remind ourselves of that?
THE VERY ARGUMENT and “LOGIC” being fronted to attempt to disarm you is all about giving up your freedom so that you must rely on government minders who will never show up in time to save you or your family. Give up your liberty for false security. No thanks.
Wow. "I was just following orders."
You would make an excellent concentration camp guard. Perhaps you could send your resume to Obama?
This did take a lot of courage to expose this. WOW. We DO need to know the info he has exposed.
Booz Allen is owned by The Carlyle Partners V which is odd to me. They were purchsed by Carlyle partners in 2008.
How ironic that the most corrupt president I have ever seen actually made the above statement. What a hypocrite.
don’t be so quick to call this guy a hero...He was a CIA operative who didn’t like the CIA, had problems in the military....one of the conservative retired military referred to him as a “defector”(on Fox).
Beginning to sound more like an angry guy, disillusined with Obozo, alib who acts on feelings. Not sure, but I will wait to hear more about this.
Hopefully he’s keeping back some information, for insurance.
that;s what the conservatist military guy said on fox.
I agree...he sounds like another Manning.
I’m confused about this guy, too.
that is WAY OUT OF LINE!!
there are ways to get the info to true patriots...
