I'm very familiar with the Sundial article. Although articles in college newspapers are usually written by students matriculating at the school, there are exceptions, and there is nothing in the article to specifically indicate whether author Barack Obama was enrolled at the school at the time.

The Sundial no longer exists but I bet it still would be possible to find an editor from 1983 and ask if they accepted articles from non-students.

I would like to dispose of the foreign student argument, at least to my satisfaction.

It would not seem possible to have acquired foreign student status with the name "O", and evidence of such usage could defeat the argument.

Regarding the Sundail
Would it have been acceptable in that era for a student author at one of the ivy league schools to use a pseudonym for an article written for the school magazine?
