Is Atherton insanely wealthy? I didn’t think of it that way.
Atherton is one of the wealthiest towns in America....
as for it being “insanely wealthy” .. well, O keeps going there because some Atherton residents keep shoving zillions of dineros in political contributions at him...
if that ain’t insane, what is?
average used house prices....april 2013
PALO ALTO (the main town in the center of the rest of those listed below).... $1,800,000 you get 3 bedroom post-WW2 army returnee tract house of about 1500 sq feet on a 60x100 ft lot, plus or minus.
SUBURBS or neighboring smaller towns:
Atherton (the original wealth center, now has new money too)... $2,154,000 (but it was $4.250,000 last year and prices haven’t gone down in that time, so the difference is just random draw which places were on the market is all ...)
Portola Valley (presumably this data includes Woodside based on Ws not being separately reported and this figure seems on the high side for PV by itself)...$3.930,000 (same comment in reverse from Atherton comment above, since previous year’s random draw gave a figure of just $1.960,000 — must have been a veritable shack, eh?)
Los Altos... $2.069.000. Menlo Park... $1.365,000.
Average figures. Some higher, some lower (but not by a lot).
A number of places reach $10,000,000 or higher.
One I know of went for $150,000,000 but that was exceptional.
Conclusion: much of the world’s wealth has been buying into this little area, indeed 75% of resales are reported by the leading broker to be to immigrants mostly from Communist China, many for all-cash. This bids up prices a lot.
Which town has the greatest wealth is hard to say, however. If you have a few million dineros in spare change to buy a used shack, you can pretty much take your pick and you’ll be happily enscounced amidst great plenty no matter which you select.
Except that Dear Leader keeps coming for fund-raisers and ties up all the traffic for ya, of course....
Enjoy!
Insanely wealthy = anyone with private sector money who votes Democrat
