Has anyone ever satisfactorily explained the ‘African’ designation in the ‘race’ category? Wdn’t it (back in ‘61) more likely have been Negro? ‘African’ isn’t a race.

I can guarantee you that the designation on US birth certificates of the time, was "Negro". It's printed on my, and my six siblings birth certificates - the last one being produced in 1963.

Thank you so much for that info. That wd have been my assumption too. Plus, you’d think if anyone else from that era had ‘African’ on their BC, they’d have stepped forward by now. The effort to authenticate Obama is vast. The desire to make ‘birthers’ look stupid, however, is even greater. So one wd think if ‘African’ were a sometimes-used designation, they’d have put up evidence to that effect by now.
