Sen. [Rand] Paul Statement on National Security Agency Surveillance
Office of Senator Rand Paul ^ | June 6, 2013 | Rand Paul

Posted on 06/06/2013 8:56:25 AM PDT by Timber Rattler

Sen. Rand Paul today released the following statement in response to news of the NSA extensive seizure and surveillance of Americans' Verizon phone records.

"The National Security Agency's seizure and surveillance of virtually all of Verizon's phone customers is an astounding assault on the Constitution. After revelations that the Internal Revenue Service targeted political dissidents and the Department of Justice seized reporters' phone records, it would appear that this Administration has now sunk to a new low.

When Sen. Mike Lee and I offered an amendment that would attach Fourth Amendment protections to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act last year, it was defeated, and FISA was passed by an overwhelming majority of the Senate. At the time, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid remarked that FISA was "necessary to protect us from the evil in this world."

The Bill of Rights was designed to protect us from evil, too, particularly that which always correlates with concentrated government power, and particularly Executive power. If the President and Congress would obey the Fourth Amendment we all swore to uphold, this new shocking revelation that the government is now spying on citizens' phone data en masse would never have happened."

Flashback to 2011:

Rank-and-file reject Patriot Act

House Republicans Tuesday night got a harsh introduction to the majority, as more than two dozen rank-and-file GOP lawmakers voted against reauthorizing the Patriot Act.

BUT...

GOP struggles for PATRIOT Act votes

"House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) offered a stern warning to his fellow lawmakers in a closed conference meeting Wednesday at the Capitol Hill Club: Don’t you dare vote no unless you attend Mueller’s briefing and ask your questions."

AND SO...

Bachmann defends vote for Patriot Act after fielding complaints about government over-reach

"Tea Party favorite Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) on Thursday night spent five minutes on the House floor in an attempt to justify her vote for the Patriot Act, after admitting to receiving significant feedback from her supporters urging her to reject it."

Obama said that the war on terror is over, so the surveillance can only be about domestic political persecution, which seems to be the only war that the Obama regime is waging at the moment.

The regime probably has files on everybody and is tracking their associations. Non-commies will be harassed, threatened, persecuted, etc.. They will be driven off society and exterminated. Or at least, that’s their plan.

The big question is what ELSE did this corrupt administration do that’s illegal and unconstitutional?

I truly hope that uppity, ineligible, overreaching, arrogant, petulant snot-bag in my Oval Office comes after me or mine. He and his Jackboots will be in for a rude come-uppance.

Wake up and smell the river, Barbie O'Bunga. It's starting to wiffle with the sweet stench of outraged revolt. It may just wash you right out of town...

Most Americans couldn’t care less. Most see no threat by the government. Government is their buddy, their caretaker and is there to ‘help’ them get along and protect them. We have a lot of unlearning to do for the majority under 50.

Where are all those people who accursed others of wearing tin foil and seeing those black helicopters as they called those who warned government was becoming very deceptive, too powerful and too controlling?

It was those same exact people years ago, who warned others of this incremental lawless government intrusion, intimidation as government routinely used the the Constitution to wipe their feet on, as govenrment grew larger and more controlling.

I remember when they passed this abomination and I was so angry. Other people didn’t understand why I was so angry and when I told them I was more afraid of our government than I was terrorists they thought I was nuts.

The dictator of the Senate believes that FISA was “necessary to protect us from the evil in this world.”
