Back in the day a girl who lived down the road from me and who would sleep with anything would have cops comimg and going all hours and they would let her brothers tear down the road at high speed.
I happened to be driving a car that I had just had an accident in 2 months before, it had flipped over. It wouldn’t go over 35 without shaking furiously. I had taken my son to the library and he got sick so I was taking him home. I was going the speed limit and stopped at a stop sign behind an officer. I came to my stop and proceeded and he immediately did a U-turn and stopped me. I asked him why he stopped me and he got snotty saying I was going 75 in a 20. I told him I was not and the car couldn’t go 75 if I begged it to. He pulled out his ticket book, took my registration and license and wrote me a ticket. I told him my son was ill and just give me the ticket so I can go. He said I could go when he said so.
He went to his car and was checking when I got a call from a friend who had a scanner. He heard the officer call it in and told me the cop had called me a bi*ch. When the cop came back to my car and told me to sign the ticket I said I was going to be a bi*ch and not sign. He got a strange look on his face and then he had an epiphany. I asked him how he liked the prostitute down the road from me and I said I had seen him many times and that I did not appreciate being called a bi*ch. I also told him he can shove the ticket where the sun don’t shine. He handed me the ticket. Before he walked away my son put his head out the window and threw-up nailing the cops pantleg. I looked at him and said “told you he was sick”. I’m surprised I wasn’t shot!
I went to court and he never showed up. The judge heard my side and asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I wanted to go home and he told me to have a nice day. :)
None of them got off scot free, and all of them would probably handle the same situation differently, knowing what they do now.
Sometimes it just isn't worth the brief momentary gratification if the result is a lifetime of misery. Every American citizen has a God-given right to show the authorities that they stand to gain nothing by misbehaving. Be sure to disincentivise bad police behavior, and eventually they'll stop once it's no longer fun to play that game.
You not only can fight City Hall, you are obligated to do so if you're an American. The truth is, you can kick the wheezing snot out of City Hall, as long as you do it one now-retired overweight swine at a time.

“I went to court and he never showed up.”
Had this happen too. The only cops that show up are the ones ‘on the clock’ and getting paid for the time, that comes out of the time they would be on the street. If a cop is retired he would have to respond to the subpoena and accept the insulting payment.
The cop in our case has retired and was never served the subpoena. We were witnesses to the accident and had to drive an hour to this court under threats from the court if we didn’t show.
I contend one of the benefits to the ‘men of blue’ have their subpoenas lost once they retire. Just a courtesy of course.
excellent story
