In a dramatic breakthrough on immigration reform, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) is offering up an amendment to break the log jam and address his and other GOP senators concerns about border security.
Entitled the RESULTS amendment (Requiring Enforcement, Security and safety, & Upgrading Legitimate Trade and travel Simultaneously) the amendment would:
Requires DHS Secretary and GAO Comptroller General to jointly certify that these triggers are met before Registered Provisional Immigrants (RPI) can adjust to Lawful Permanent Resident (green card) status: 1. 100% Situational Awareness monitoring capability at every segment of Southern border 2. Full Operational Control defined as at least a 90% apprehension rate along Southern border 3. Biometric Exit System fully operational and in use at all air and sea ports of entry to which U.S. Customs and Border Protection is currently deployed; retains current law for land ports 4. Nationwide E-Verify System must be implemented (identical to S.744) Mandates that DHS deploy newly defined border security metrics to gauge success or failure. Requires DHS to issue a Southern Border Security Strategy within 120 days to achieve operational control of every sector of the Southern border, and a 50 percent wait-time reduction at land ports of entry.Authorizes supplemental and emergency appropriations to improve border security, including $1 billion per year over 6 years for land port of entry infrastructure improvements and personnel.

In 2010 El Presidente of Mexico (Calderon I believe)was asked would happen if someone slipped into Mexico(I don’t know who would want to)? His answer: They would be arrested. Their law about illegal entry into Mexico Here is a summary of that law:
Under the Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and attempt to re-enter can be imprisoned for 10 years. Visa violators can be sentenced to six-year terms. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals.
The law also says Mexico can deport foreigners who are deemed detrimental to economic or national interests, violate Mexican law, are not physically or mentally healthy or lack the necessary funds for their sustenance and for their dependents.
My thought is this:
1. Build a 12 foot fence. Man it with all means needed.
2. Give permission for the US personnel the right to shoot anyone going over the fence. Especially US citizens trying to sneak into Mexico.
3. Send the Mexican government a bill for half the cost of the fence and assure them we have their back.
In all seriousness, build the fence and electrify it using solar and wind power. Man and patrol it. Case closed.
Right now no one is running against either Cornyn or George P. Bush for land commissioner — they get free rides. Perry could face Tom Pauken (never won statewide) and Greg Abbott. People in TX must think George P. is the “real deal” after all.
We must conclude that so many of the Republican “leaders”
are and have been for years “closet Democrats”. But unlike the late John Vliet Lindsay, they stay in the closet.
An oligarchy of billionaires run Mexico. These people control the monopolies that dominate the Mexican economy. Traditionally they have been able to repress competition leading to slower economic growth, a stunted entrepreneurial class, a lack of foreign investment, limited choices for consumers, and fewer jobs. These conditions help keep almost half the Mexican population in poverty and only semi-employed.
Mexico is rich. Last year they passed Brazil in economic growth. But where the U.S. is over regulated, Mexico is under regulated. In the U.S. the government is the main obstacle to economic growth. In Mexico it is the ruling class. And Mexico has a judicial system that favors the powerful.
An example: Billionaire Carlos Slim controls 80 percent of telecommunications—landlines and mobile phones—in Mexico. The absence of competition means fewer jobs, less innovation, slower growth for the industry, and little choice in rates or services for consumers.
The key to solving the illegal immigration crisis may be forceful diplomacy aimed at helping Mexico design a new regulatory model that encourages competition, foreign investment and a new generation of entrepreneurs and small business owners.
This may be a pipe dream but it beats: “. . .give me the wretched refuse from your teeming shore.”
NO question there is not going to be an immigration reform bill that is equitable
not with the Dems and MSM in love with illegals
so we can either get all outraged , which is meaningiless
OR we can try to put in some rules that don’t bend over backwards for the illegals
refusing to recognize it is going to happen is pretty stupid
Same here in Tn. We could get rid of Lamar Alexander if a credible
candidate stepped up. So far, no one has.
Gregg Abbott would be awesome - at least from what I’ve heard about him the last several years. I wish he’d run against Cornyn.
Looks like Cornyn is sick of the Senate, because he won’t be there much longer with this crap.
But if there MUST BE a trigger, then instead of using a couple of stooges, how about something like requiring a majority vote in Congress from the major parties - EACH PARTY, and ON THE RECORD. In other words, get 51% of Republicans to also certify that the border is secured. It will be very hard and likely will require a REAL wall.
I know, I know...do nothing, but I’m trying to be somewhat constructive here.
Its not 11 million. Its 20. Watch. Oh and by the way how are we going to do background checks and have English classes for 20 million? We arent. Get it the jokes on us.
Exactly! In the famous words of Gov Rick Perry...
If immigration reform is on the table, two additional things need to be included which must be non-negotiable:
> government issued photo ID required to vote as part of a comprehensive voter rights reform
> there must be a reasonable cap on how many illegals get citizenship regardless of how many apply... because we do not know how many are really here and also may have trouble identifying some who sneak over now in order to get their citizenship
Personally, I am for enforcement first with removing all financial aid including public school to those here illegally... but I would be open for discussion if we could get real border enforcement, and voter rights reforms done.
It must have teeth so that parts cannot be selectively enforced or parts struck down by runaway courts.
I’m no fan of Perry, ESPECIALLY when it comes to ILLEGALS...so I don’t think that would buy us much. But there are other Texans with a clean record.
The only people who do not want ALL illegal aliens, from every foreign nation deported, are the various criminals who prey upon them.
If you employ or harbor an illegal alien, you are committing a serious crime.
Yes, I very much want you to be charged with the crime, and I want you to be held personally and financially liable for the penalties, upon conviction, that you deserve.
Jailtime and severe fines for you, my fellow citizen!
Deportation for your slave/indentured servant/victim of prostitution etc.
You want to be a sponsor for a specific immigrant?
Go for it!
Legally.
From the article: Prohibits illegal aliens convicted of serious misdemeanors, such as domestic violence, aggravated assault, child abuse, violation of a protection order, and drunk driving, from receiving RPI status.
I have to say (somewhat tongue in cheek) this one provision would disqualify most of the illegals in my area. But seriously, please don’t under estimate Senator Cornyn. He has successfully navigated the political waters of Texas for many years and is no one’s fool. He is quite aware this amendment is a poison pill and also a vehicle for allowing Rubio and others a graceful exit from an untenable position. The legislative process is not so much about fighting as it is about winning.
1) ...and shoot on site; no warnings, no ‘to-wound’
2) Re-write? It’s legible as it stands. They interpret and follow as they do the 2nd, what’s to change the re-write?! Make them read/enforce as it stands
3) Why the slow down? IMMEDIATE termination; no if’s/and’s or but’s
Mine:
4) Enforce immigration using rules from their own country; that’ll get some heads exploding
You’re spot on with #4.
We’d see brain matter everywhere if we had the same rules for the Mexicans that they have for us.
At this point, no one has announced against either Cornyn or George P. Bush. But Tom Pauken and Greg Abbott are running against Perry and Jerry Patterson and Todd Staples against David Dewhurst. People in TX still think Cornyn is “on their side”.
