Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA) not only blamed the victims of the IRS's targeting on Tuesday--he also implied the IRS would have been justified targeting conservative and Tea Party groups if the agency did so based on what the groups stood for instead of on the words in their names.
At a House Ways and Means hearing in which six leaders of organizations the IRS had targeted were testifying, McDermott said the "mistake here was the staff used the names of the organizatiions instead of the work they do."

McDermott lashed out at the witnesses, saying "each of your groups are highly political" and said that Tea Party and conservative groups that were essentially asking for "a tax break" were trying to game the system and should have been scrutinized for submitting applications for tax-exempt status. He continued by saying taxpayers should know "which side you fall on" and whether groups were interested in finding voters who vote without IDs or doing things like promoting Communist views.
He called the hearings a "circus" and "political theatre" and accused Republicans for looking for a "conspiracy" that did not exist. He suggested the law should be rewritten to prevent groups that engage in political activity from getting tax-exempt status.
He also then went on a rant against George W. Bush and accused the Bush administration of targeting liberal groups "without any concern."
An exasperated Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), who was the next to question, told the witnesses, "so you're to blame ...I guess that's the message."

McDermott sounds like he plays Barney Frank’s skin flute.
“He looks like the worthless SOS he is”
SOS???
Son of Satan??? Yea that’s the ticket..
Maybe tea partiers should start carrying rape whistles since being a tea partier is apparently justification to be targeted.
I’d call him and give him a piece of my mind.....except for that restraining order ;-)
Oh, he can say whatever he wants. He typically gets re-elected with around 80% of the vote. His district is pretty much metro Seattle area. The guy is is absolute slime.
“.....if McDermott has a stroke or a heart attack and is gulping oxygen, fighting to breathe, someone should tell him...”
“Karma’s a b!tch”; “What goes around comes around”; “Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy”
What a dirtbag.
Oh those Tea Parties were gaming the system alright. They produce no income and their focus is to get guys like you, Mr. Democrat, out of office because it’s YOU that squander our tax funds and give them away foolishly to the non-producers. Plus we just do’nt like people that talk out of both sides of their mouth, live lavishly on the backs of taxpayer funds and broker deals in secret to sell out America to the highest bidder so your pockets are lined a little deeper. No wonder you don’t like us...: )
He continued by saying taxpayers should know “which side you fall on”
As supporters of the US Constitution I think they are on the side of the American people you asswad.........
Obamas handlers since he was young have all had one plan and that is blood in American streets. They will giggle with glee when Americans are killing each other for causes the ruling elite created. Socialism is a death cult just like Islam. It’s the murder of personal Liberty.
Each of your groups is highly political from opposing the presidents healthcare reform, to abortion restrictions to gay marriage, you are all entrenched in some of the most controversial political issues in the country.
Comment: Dem Rep To Tea Party: Of Course You Were Targeted; You Asked For It!
So, let me get this straight, congressman: Groups who support Obamas healthcare reform, abortion-on-demand and gay marriage arent highly political and engaged in political work? Is that what youre saying? If so, with all due respect, youre an even bigger fool than you appear to be.
I'd piss in his throat.
Indeed.
In December 2004, the House Ethics Committee investigated McDermott over the leaking of an illegally recorded telephone conversation during a 1997 committee investigation of then-Speaker Newt Gingrich.
The recording was made by John and Alice Martin, who claimed that they had overheard the conversation on a police scanner, decided to record it for posterity’s sake, and then decided that it might be important for the Ethics Committee to hear.
The Martins gave the tape to McDermott because he was the senior Democrat on the Ethics Committee. Within two days, reportedly after the Republican Ethics Committee Chair Nancy L. Johnson refused to allow a vote on making the tape part of the committee’s records, sending the tape to the Justice Department, or taking any action against participants in the conversation, and over the warning of the Committee’s counsel of possible legal liability, McDermott gave the tape to several media outlets, including the New York Times.
Rep. John Boehner, who was part of the Gingrich conversation, sued McDermott in his capacity as a private citizen, seeking punitive damages for violations of his First Amendment rights.
After U.S. District Judge Thomas Hogan ordered McDermott to pay Boehner for “willful and knowing misconduct” that “rises to the level of malice”, McDermott appealed, arguing that since he had not created the recording, his actions were allowed under the First Amendment, and that ruling against him would have ‘a huge chilling effect’ on reporters and newsmakers alike.
Eighteen news organizations including ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, The Associated Press, the New York Times and the Washington Post filed a brief backing McDermott.
On March 29, 2006, the court ruled 21 that McDermott violated federal law when he turned over the illegally recorded tape to the media outlets, ordering McDermott to pay Boehner’s legal costs (over $600,000) plus $60,000 in damages.
On June 26, 2006, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit vacated the judgment, deciding to re-hear the case with all nine judges. However, a split 4 to 1 to 4 en banc decision in Boehner v. McDermott, 484 F.3d 573 (D.C. Cir. 2007) affirmed the three-judge panel, but on different grounds; the Supreme Court declined review.
On March 31, 2008, Chief Judge Thomas Hogan of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia ordered McDermott to pay Boehner $1.05 million in attorney’s fees, costs and interest. McDermott also paid over $60,000 in fines and close to $600,000 in his own legal fees.
Thanks for posting that for me!
He’s a scum bucket.

There was a Christian pastor who got his non-profit status challenged by the IRS because he was organizing anti war protests from his church. He felt it was a political hit job by Booooosh.
He may have “FELT” that way, but if it were an actual “targeting”, we would have been deluged with that information by the press.
The IRS targeting of conservative groups was SYSTEMIC and from the top down.
And it stole the election.
So I don’t think there is any comparison.
