For the Rev. Ernest Easley, the decision to cut ties with the Boy Scouts was simple.
The Bible says homosexuality is a sin. The Boy Scouts do not.
We are not willing to compromise Gods word, said Easley, pastor of the 2,300-member Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga., which has sponsored Boy Scout Troop 204 since 1945.
Easley, chairman of the Southern Baptist Conventions executive committee, said his church will shut down its troop at end of the year because of a recently adopted policy to allow openly gay scouts. Hes urging other Baptists to do the same.
Roswell Street is one of the first churches to cut ties with the Scouts over the new policy. Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, a 23,000-member megachurch, has also announced plans to shut down its troop. Other critics of the new policy, which doesnt take effect until January 2014, are taking a wait-and-see approach.
The Southern Baptist Convention, whose 3,981 Scout troops make it the BSAs sixth-largest religious sponsor, plans to address the issue at its annual meeting in Houston, June 11-12. About 70 percent of Scout troops are chartered by a faith-based group.
Deron Smith, a spokesman for the Boy Scouts, said the organization will help troops that have lost their church sponsors to find new homes. He said the new policy fits the beliefs of most religious groups that sponsor troops.
This policy reaffirms that doing ones duty to God is absolutely explicit and one of the fundamental principles of Scouting and states that sexual conduct by any Scout, heterosexual or homosexual, is contrary to the virtues of Scouting, he said in an e-mail.
The Scouts two largest religious sponsors, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the United Methodist Church, both said they intend to remain involved

Actually, the Bible says that homosexual behavior is a sin.
What happened to “love the sinner, hate the sin?” I fear this decoupling will only hasten the fall.
In this context, I think that what the author contends is homosexuality and its endorsement. Also championing and celebrating homosexual behavior, even if you are celibate, is most definitely a sin.
You are correct suh!
Plus the BSA actually left the churches They ignored the Ned’s of the church certainly not th other way around
Mine is, and I hope they all cut ties.
Shunning those determined to commit sin and who are promoting it as a worthy behavior is the right thing to do.
“What happened to love the sinner, hate the sin?”
Do you propose a different course of action?
I don't disagree. It was just a poor choice of words. I'm quite sure there are Christians with homosexual tendencies who fight Satan every day to repress these urges and live a Godly life. And I respect them very much - "well done true and faithful servant!"
It’s just too bad that the leadership within the scouts has devolved into this mess. Maybe instead of punishing the kids by disbanding and defunding the troops, maybe we should work to throw out the malevolent deviant homosexual perverts in the leadership positions within the oranization. Somebody made these decisions, against everything the scouts stand for, they need to be singled out, and told in no certain terms that they have no future in the scouts, and they either leave, or get thrown out. Oh, and I would like to see an axe grinding badge added.
They are all the same in one overall general context, with shades of significant differences. I see "gay" as a charged political term. IMO, You can be homosexual (suffer from same-sex attraction) without being "gay," which is charged with implications of affirmation, indulgence and participation in this lifestyle.
It was sexual perversion that destroyed the Roman empire and it's certainly doing so in the US. Life is all about relationships....ruin, split, divide and injure those and you're fast going down the road of destroying the nation in whole.
Additionally...pedophilia is certainly on the heels of homosexuality...and bestiality not far from that.
The barbarians are here and active....seen and heard now in full view of the audiance....leaving a trail of destruction in their path.
The Mormons I don’t care about, but it saddens me that the Methodist Church has taken the road it has taken over the last 15 years with its bogus open hearts open minds mantra. The national convention has sold the church’s soul right out from underneath the smaller more conservative local churches that are tied to the national convention by tithes.
I know many Methodist’s from my small home town where the younger ones have gone to the SBC church and the older ones basically just too old and sad to leave a church they have been in for 50+ years. The small town church I went to with my wife, between my Baptist churches, went from a healthy membership of over 200+ on any Sunday to maybe 15-20 on a Sunday now.
At least some churches are holding to biblical laws. Given the current political climate the best they can do is follow St. Paul’s advice-”...come out from among them.”
Admonishing the sinner is thee appropriate action in certain well established churches That’s and loving but correcting. Not shunning.
First, there is no intent to "punish the kids" involve with scouting by withdrawing support. If anything, it is the motivation to PROTECT them that is in play here.
Yes, I think every traditional scout and scout unit, whether supportive or not, agrees that the upper leadership officials are the culprits and should be absolutely kicked to the curb. There is no argument about this. The decision to be made is how this is to be done. With the Mormon Church complicit in this decision (the head honcho of the Scouts is Mormon and is "pro-gay"), simply kicking them out seems to be extremely unlikely. The better strategy is to crash and burn the organization as quickly and thoroughly as possible so that principled scouting leaders can reclaim the failed organization.
.....”What happened to love the sinner, hate the sin?”....
Since God “gave them over” for their refusal to acknowledge Him and His will...I see no reason for me to take on a “coined phrase” ,intitiated by men , to seperate the sin from the sinner.
Homosexuality sin begins “within” a man....he ‘chooses’ to follow his lust and deny God’s will, which HE KNOWS....and by doing so also knows the price is estrangement from others.
The ONLY way for them to stop that estrangement is to demand the “attention” we see them seek now. By tolerating and giving them this attention we have stepped into what might have otherwise been God’s dealing with them “In the closet”.

“Love the sinner, hate the sin,” is found nowhere in the Bible. It is the invention wishful thinking men.
Psalm 5:5 plainly states that God hates all workers of iniquity. I Corinthians 6:9,10 and Revelation 21:8 teach us that unrighteous people will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Thank God for jesus, who covers our sinfulness with his righteousness, so God can give those who believe in Jesus the crown of eternal life in heaven.
Of course they will. The Mormon "church" isn't Christian, and the United Methodist Church has for the most part become so liberal and unbiblical that it can no longer be considered an authentic, bible-believing Christian denomination. My Godly Methodist grandparents who passed on to Heaven in the '50s would leave the current UMC in a heartbeat if they were still living here on this sin-cursed ball of dirt.
