Warhead stockpile 'defensive' (China propagandists claim)

Beijing responds to speculation in SIPRI nuclear weapons report

Beijing hopes the outside world will not make wild guesses about China's limited nuclear capacity, and believes that countries with the largest nuclear arsenals should bear the primary responsibility for nuclear disarmament, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters at a daily news briefing on Monday.

He was speaking in response to a newly released report from a Sweden-based think tank, which stated that China has added 10 nuclear warheads to its stockpile, bringing its total to 250.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute released the report on Monday, saying China, India and Pakistan had increased their nuclear arsenals over the past year.

Pakistan has added about 10 warheads for a total of between 100 and 120, and India has increased its supply by about 10 for a total of 90 to 110, the institute said.

Observers said the report only demonstrates academic research and cannot be seen as an authorized source for judging a country's nuclear capability.

Hong said China's nuclear weapons are firmly committed to self-defense, and China has never used such weapons to threaten other countries.

Sounds like Beijing is freaking out about this nuke report. The Chinese routine is first stay silent, then deny everything, but when evidence proves guilt then go ahead and tell a bold lie.

It is very probable that one day the Chinese will strike the continental USA with nuclear missiles.

That’s not really possible. The U.S. deploys 3 layers of radiation, scent, and thermal detectors in the ocean, in Space, and on personnel responsible for atomic security prior to anything conventional (e.g. cargo ship with a device on-board) reaching our borders...

...and the U.S. deploys more than 500 SM-2 and SM-3 sea-borne anti-missiles, tons of Patriot terminal stage interceptors, and some 44 mid-course Space interceptors for Strategic interceptions.

Is that all they have? Damn, sounds like Israel and South Africa could outgun China with nukes.

I had no idea how extensive our protection is.

What are mid course Space interceptors?

For the last few years I have thought we must have some secret weapons that our enemies are afraid of. We must have some bad assed weapons that few people know about.

I guess that explains why Beijing wanted to obtain so much military intelligence from Obama’s White House.

Wait a minute, didn’t the Russians have nuke ships sailing near Washington DC during 2012 US elections season? How did those boats escape radiation detection? Could this be a counter-intelligence posting? Didn’t Obama scale down Pentagon spending? I think he also blamed the Sequester for Defense spending cuts.

There was an analysis done on China’s underground nuclear facilities by a university (it put the CIA to shame) that estimated that China likely has as many as 3,000 nukes at this point. Considering the nature of Russia and China, this isn’t hard for me to believe.

Do not believe anything you read. Frankly, they've been telling us that China has 200-300 nukes since I was in high school in 1978.

Look at the time interval between the USA's first exploded atom bomb, then the development of the H-bomb, then the reliable ICBM, then the MIRVed ICBM.

Do the same test for the USSR.

The Russians did it all in LESS time than we...probably because we pioneered the way, proved it could be done.

Now, don't tell me China hasn't shaved a few years off the Russians' efforts as well.

China is orbiting men two at a time--equivalent to our own Project Gemini.

China is working on perfecting their SLBMs.

IMHO, China is at a level of technological sophistication exceeding our own in 1968. How many ICBMs did we have in 1968? The Russians?

Many thousands. We peaked (guessing) in the mid-80's at just under 30,000 warheads.

China must be at at least 1/3 that level--10,000 warheads. They're tunneling underground, no satellite can count them. Great powerpoint out of Columbia U. on that issue, Google it.

Sun Tzu said something about appearing weak when you're strong. China's doing that right now. Velvet mace, or whatever they're calling it.

We are going to wake up one morning and there will be an announcement that China has overtaken the USA *and* Russia COMBINED and can wipe us both out if it choosed to do so.

And yes, I am of the opinion that a nuclear war, terrible as it will be, CAN BE WINNABLE. But you have to have an evil, very cynical, mindset.

I think they have the right mind for this kinda mischief. They certainly have enough un-marriable males. And they certainly have the need for Siberian wood, oil, minerals, etc.

Did you know that the Chinese generals have, on more than one occasion, threatned to nuke Los Angeles? Google it.

Did you know that the Chinese, at a cocktail party, were overheard by the Russian delegation to use the term "Xi Yu"? The Russians enquired. They were obviously referring to a region as if it were part of China, but not part of China, and the Russians were baffled.

They were informed that Xi Yu = Kazakhstan. The size of the lower 48. Rich in oil, located in Central Asia, and the Chinese were trying to spin a claim on it.

The Chinese also claim an area of Russia the size of Alaska, along the Amur/Ussuri rivers. Yeah, they went into a series of shooting incidents--it even involved tank battalions--back circa 1970. But everything's cool, now. The Russians, like Neville Chamberlain, have a signed piece of toilet paper signifying a 50 year Treaty of Friendship with China. So it's cool, right?

Why don't we have such a document with Canada? Oh...because if you truly are friends, you don't put it on paper. You don't need to.

Russia signed the same kind of agreement with Nazi Germany. The Russians, for all their heroic bluster, can be a cowardly lot--they don't want to fight any more than anyone else--but they sure do sign a lot of treaties that get themselves stabbed in the back. I pity them, because China is looking at Siberia and counting down the years before they move on it. Or have they already?

Did you know that our Mexican illegal immigration problem is no greater than Russia's illegal immigration problem with China? That Lake Baikal is partially fished out by Chinese poachers? That in Irkutsk, they found a piggyback telephone system that ethnic Chinese residents used, jury-rigged to the Russian lines? The phone company was livid.

There's a lot goin' on that we never hear.

China just pushed into India last week, you guys catch that?

They fought two wars with India--which lost both of 'em. And now they're pushing India around again, de facto redrawing the border...because THEY CAN.

They've taken the best Russia can give. Aircraft carrier. Sukhoi Flanker fighters. Space launch capabilities. AK-47s. Then they reverse engineer the tech and sell it out of license to their own clients, cheating the Russians out of revenue, and violating written agreements. The Russians are HOT about this, btw.

China is a country that is out of control. It has never had to deal with nations as EQUALS; the very concept is alien to them. In Europe, they learned and perfected the craft of diplomacy, of rules, because the powers of Europe were all of similar size and capability, no one became too powerful for too long; they HAD to learn to work out differences.

China...never has. It's supplication to China as a vassal, and that's it. Desert to the West--useless land of barbarians. Taiga to the North--useless nomadic barbarians who can offer us nothing. Jungle to the South--some old, but small kingdoms down there...we'll entertain them at court, but they amuse us, they're so small. To the East--endless ocean, and a xenophobic island nation we'll invade later (Japan). And that's the Chinese world.

I think they're bitter that they fell asleep, and woke up a millennium later and realized they weren't #1 anymore, and oh, by the way, there were other continents--but you can't exploit 'em, 'cause we've already been there for 200 years and have settled it. I think they RESENT this, but say nothing.

That may all be true. However, could the US afford to maintain it once it goes over the financial abyss and is being run by politicians who wouldn’t mind the country being number 3 or 4 in military capability?

Isn’t that Obama our nation’s Commander-in-Chief right now? Pretty soon, he will make our military capabilities lower than Estonia’s.

“The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute”

Sounds like a buncha of code-pinkos who take China at its word

Why I bet the Chinese took them on a tour of its 3,000 mile tunnel system in which it hides its ICBMs and let them count each warhead

oBozo has proposed the US Navy doing “joint war exercises” with the Chinese in Hawaii

Wow that gains us a lot, doesn’t it, letting the Chinese watch how we plan to fight at sea, putting them in our command centers

Imagine the Chinese Navy docking in Pearl Harbor

Maybe next we invite the Russians to do joint war exercises in Colorado Springs and watch our entire nuke C3 in action

Yeah, the fancy banquet routine. As a reporter I’ve been on these type of excursions before. Beijing will tell you that they will answer all your questions and disclose all their secrets. Then they take you to a tour of fancy hotels and restaurants, pile in hundreds of other reporters for a press conference, give long-winded speech along with a committee of 20 or more officials, who must give long-winded speeches to introduce themselves too, and when they finish their speeches they only have time for 1 or 2 questions from a reporter with a reputation for asking soft questions. And then it’s time for the banquest festivities so they’re too busy to talk to reporters, but they’re more than happy to drink with you while only agreeing to small talk conversations about today’s weather.

It’s sickening.

I can’t say what I’m thinking because the fbi /ss would be at my door in 2 minutes.
