I suppose he thinks that he will escape a conviction by representing himself and then claiming on appeal that he did not have the benefit of competent counsel.

He just applied for another 3 mo deferment.
With each deferment he thinks the sharp edges of what he did become dulled.
I don’t think you can actually do that. And I’m sure he’ll get lawyers to advise him, they usually do that.
But, if this is the best he can do, defense-wise, he’s toast.
I’d try “irresistible impulse, temporary insanity” something like that.
After being offered the services of THREE experienced attorneys and rejecting them all while the judge repeatedly asks him to reconsider, I would bet that the appeals court doesn’t buy that argument.
But the SCOTUS gets the final say even in courts martial.That court,as currently populated,would vote 5-4 to declare him not guilty and to order that he be given the Congressional Medal of Honor.
