Senator Ted Cruz offered a solution to the IRSs scandal: get rid of the agency entirely and simplify the tax code so that tax returns fit on a piece of paper the size of a postcard.
We ought to abolish the IRS and instead move to a simple flat tax, Cruz said on Fox News over the weekend.
Put down how much you earn, put down a deduction for charitable contributions, for home mortgage, and how much you owe, he continued. It ought to be just a simple, one-page postcard....

Amen.
Never happen; there’s never been a bureaucracy the characters in Washington couldn’t love - and the bigger and more complex, the better.
The whole mess that no one but a ‘lifer’ can understand makes ‘em feel important.
I’m all for a flat tax but how does it remain a flat tax when there are deductions?
To me the idea is to get rid of the manipulation capabilities and that is not possible with deductions.
Good sense fights a losing battle in this country.
Like asking an elephant to take up cooking.
Obama is always sucking up to Putin so maybe he can borrow a few czars to help demolish the IRS and translate their postcards into English.

“Cruz Calls for Abolishing IRS, Moving to Simple Flat Tax”
At this point, I am thinking THAT could get him elected President, even IF he never addresses anything else!! :)
As far as I’m concerned, the people should never have any direct dealings with the federal government over how much money they make.
Cruz might want to start watching what he says. If the flat tax movement really gets legs under it. The World Bangsters and IMF cronies might have Cruz RFK’d. Cant have anyone messing with their free money.
Not good enough.
Businesses would still be burdened with the reporting and accounting requirements.
And somebody would still be in the business of deciding who qualifies to be tax exempt - which is the issue at hand.
The IRS would still be required.
IMO you have missed the target.
The issue is not the continued existence of a bureaucracy (IRS).
The real issue is the amount of power that Congress will lose.
The tax code is no longer based on what is necessary to runt he Republic, as our founding fathers envisioned.
It is now a system of rewarding selected sub-groups, forcing actions upon others, and shaking down still others for reelection contributions. Who benefits the most from the existing tax code? Congress. And it is Congress who will have to scrap the existing tax code for another.
What? Give up all that power and money? Are you serious Senator Cruz?
The federal government should tax the STATES not individuals. Let each state determine for itself what taxes will be raised.
He seems to have the guts, so far, to simply ignore them.
Most anything would be better than the turd we have now.
I predict the Rats/RINOS will polish the turd by adding a VAT.
I’d like a flat tax with no deductions.
This is not a criticism of Cruz' proposal, but IMO, retaining the home-mortgage interest deduction is a political calculation that will eventually return us to where we are. One deduction starts a cascade.
Further, I oppose charitable deductions simply because of the insane regulations we have crippling the economy at the behest of supposedly "charitable" foundations. Tax-exempt racketeering has become a monstrous industry feeding lawyers, greenies, and other bottom feeders. The scientific advocacy coming with it is ruining objective research. The day I see public prosecutors going after these wealthy leaches, I might change my mind. I know what this means to churches, but deducting contributions is asking others to foot the resulting increase in the tax burden.
Enough of all of it.
FLAT TAX NOW....GO TED!!
That’s what I worry about too. He’s got a target it on him as it is and the left and the RINO’s already have him in their sites.
AMEM! Abolish the stupid and tyrannical 16th Amendment...
