Survey shows that up to 2/3 of uninsured don't know if they'll buy insurance

I wonder how many of them realize that if they don't buy insurance, they're going to be hit with a big fine from the IRS?

The poll, conducted by InsuranceQuotes.com, also found a lot of skepticism about Obamacare:

And less than half of those in the survey released by InsuranceQuotes.com think they'll get better health care after Obamacare takes full effect. Nearly 50 percent believe the ACA will make it more difficult for them to get tests and procedures done in a timely manner, according to the phone survey of 1,001 adult Americans conducted in early May.

And a whopping 68 percent of low-income Americans aren't sure they qualify for tax credits that would subsidize their purchase of health insurance--despite they fact that they almost invariably will qualify, the survey found. That population is most likely to benefit from government subsidies under the health-care reform law.

Laura Adams, senior insurance analyst at InsuranceQuotes.com, said public uncertainty about Obamacare--particularly a lack of commitment to signing up--could end up driving up health-insurance costs under the program because not enough healthy people will participate to offset benefits payouts.

"I was really shocked that 64 percent [of uninsured adults] said they haven't decided if they will purchase insurance by the Jan. 1 deadline," Adams said. "I was definitely surprised by the high number of people who really have no clue what they're going to do next year."

"We don't want these consumers to miss this key deadline," she said, adding that new heath-care exchanges under Obamacare will begin accepting applications for insurance in less than four months.

This population also hasn’t decided if they’re going to brush their teeth tonight.

“The first some of these people will hear about the Obamacare individual mandate is when they get a registered letter from the IRS telling them they owe the tax for not buying insurance. Or imagine the shoclk for some when they get the letter from their insurance company telling them the policy they’ve carried for years has inadequate coverage under the new law and they will have to buy a more expensive plan”.

America is in for a kick in the nether regions next year and most are totally unaware of it.

As I predicted from the beginning millions of people will just not bother to sign up. Obamacare is going to implode under its own weight.

Most of them actually won't -- because the premiums are too high relative to their incomes. The penalty will be waived for them.

RE: when they get a registered letter from the IRS telling them they owe the tax for not buying insurance

We should call this the “John Roberts Tax” from now on.

It used to be called a penalty.

Justice Roberts re-imagined it to be a tax.

Either way, YOU PAY.

Why are you bothering these poor, victimized people about health care? Give it to them and shut up. It’s time for American Idol and Dancing with the Stars. Sorry to be so rude, but the poor have better things to do than work or care for themselves. That’s YOUR job.

and even with the policy they end up with, there'll be all kinds of co-pays and pre-pays, and there will be limitations on the doctors and specialists' visits, and at the end of the day, the policy "holder" will wander down to the nearest hospital for an aspirin, because they have a headache.

It will largely be a wash against their Child and Dependent Care Credit.

In simple terms: For ObamaCare to succeed, the socialists need healthy people to sign up. They need these people because the insurance will cost healthy young people more than they receive in benefits. Sixty eight percent of these people know it's not a good deal, so they are not currently planning on signing up. As a special bonus, if these people actually need insurance, they can sign up at the last minute without a pre-existing conditions exclusion, so there is no benefit at all to signing up until they have a medical condition more expensive than the insurance premiums. Pelosi is brilliant! How could a plan like that fail?

it’s beginning to appear that obozo care was designed to cut available health care in the US so it is doing exactly what the NWO elite’s want it to do. I surmise those in DC placate to the world elite and the elite are using the human population as their own little game to make money and gain even more power at the expense of the rest of us. These wealthy powerful elitists aren’t just narcissistic, they are evil.

Ignorance has its punishments, you know.

If they choose to go through life with no clue as to what political forces are going on around them, then, they deserve what they gets.

Most of they replies to this article thus far seem to indicate that many Freepers have the attitude that all Americans should now just fall in line, give up their heritage, their liberties, never resist, and simply be subjugated.

Why should I purchase health insurance? I only work part time right now and insurance would eat the entirety of my income, and with a 64-136%increase to premiums next year? Ide rather pay the obama no insurance tax. I cant afford that either, so I guess Ill get sent to the gulag. At least there I will be treated better than a citizen on the outside. Im so done with this.country.

RE: They will buy it, or go their ass to jail and then buy it.

What if millions of them don’t buy? Are we going to print more money to build more jails to house them all?

The “problem” with this ultimate kick in the teeth is that “the people” won’t get this kick until the FOLLOWING year, 2015, and by then it will obviously be too late to have any impact on the midterm elections. This is as I understand it at least. Since penalties and punishments and such for mistakes made ( to the IRS ) usually don’t kick in until the following year. For example, if you made a mistake ( or lied ) about your taxes or tax situation this year, you wouldn’t hear about it or suffer any consequence until next year.

This I fear (if I’m correct) is the final piece of the puzzle, the truly insideous evil genius behind Obamacare. It will be fully entrenched AND hurting people only AFTER all responsible parties are fully insulated from any electoral blowback.

Which is also why I’m pretty much convinced that given the last election ( 2012 ), there remains no real hope for rescuing this country, to bring it back to the way it was at least, if not restoring it’s true republican (note the little “R” in “republican”) roots.
