I have been told by doctors that pneumonia is a very peaceful death. I once had a full blown case of pneumonia when I was in my early thirties. Let me tell you, it's not peaceful in any way. Damn frightening, if you ask me.

You are right: how could gasping for your last few breaths be peaceful? I guess it may be rapid, comparatively speaking.
