Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Arizona Sen. John McCain are once again banging heads – this time over whether to arm Syrian rebels – in the latest dispute that underscores a divide in the GOP and intensifies the fight over what the party will represent in 2016 and beyond.
Paul, a first-term senator and Tea Party favorite surging in popularity, took the latest shot by opposing aid to the rebels – a key part of McCain’s plan to end the two-year Syrian civil war in which 70,000 civilians and others have been killed.
“It is very clear that any attempt to aid the Syrian rebels would be complicated and dangerous, precisely because we don't know who these people are,” Paul wrote in an opinion piece earlier this week. “The situation in Syria is certainly dire. … Al Qaeda is making confirmed inroads into the country. No one wants to see Syria become a bastion of extremism. But like other American interventions in the past, U.S. involvement could actually help the extremists.”
But McCain, fresh off a secret trip to Syria, on Friday upped his call for intervention -- telling the Associated Press the opposition needs heavy weapons.

If you consider everything John McCain has ever said or done as simply an action (or reaction) that will result in a benefit to John McCain "now or down the road," he's rather successful, crazy or not. To that end, he's created and fortified an image of himself that has been pretty effective camouflage, but in some ways - to quote another scripted character in a different context - "There's no there there."
For someone who is such a scenery-chewing "friend of the military," my opinion is that he's been remarkably inconsequential in actually helping out the people - past and present - at the pointy end of the spear, and he hasn't met many situations that he didn't want to toss (other Americans') blood and/or money at. I guess in the end, I'm not sure if he's crazy, but he's definitely dangerous.

Agree with you completely. I also am not a Rand fan. I don’t trust him. However if you contrast anyone next to McCain they look good.
McCain demonstrated Rand’s point “we don’t know who they are”, when McCain posed with kidnappers in a photo-op, when he supposedly sneaked into Syria.
Looks as though Rand Paul and Ted Cruz have formed a tag team to take turns baiting the bull. :-)

Syrian civil war in which 70,000 civilians...I DOUBT any were civilians. ALL Muslims are the enemy, without uniforms.

If Obama thinks it is a good idea, I don’t.
