Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Arizona Sen. John McCain are once again banging heads this time over whether to arm Syrian rebels in the latest dispute that underscores a divide in the GOP and intensifies the fight over what the party will represent in 2016 and beyond.
Paul, a first-term senator and Tea Party favorite surging in popularity, took the latest shot by opposing aid to the rebels a key part of McCains plan to end the two-year Syrian civil war in which 70,000 civilians and others have been killed.
It is very clear that any attempt to aid the Syrian rebels would be complicated and dangerous, precisely because we don't know who these people are, Paul wrote in an opinion piece earlier this week. The situation in Syria is certainly dire. Al Qaeda is making confirmed inroads into the country. No one wants to see Syria become a bastion of extremism. But like other American interventions in the past, U.S. involvement could actually help the extremists.
But McCain, fresh off a secret trip to Syria, on Friday upped his call for intervention -- telling the Associated Press the opposition needs heavy weapons.

Party leaders are split over how to broaden their appeal to voters ...
When you have Paul, a conservative, and Mclame, a liberal, there is bound to be disagreements and friction.
mccain has gone soft in the noodle
Idiot child McCain wants to arm Al Qaeda. What could possibly go wrong?
” leader Bashar al-Assad, who has been accused of using chemical weapons on civilians”
lie, lie lie, the rebels have been accused
McCain is still in the Republican party?
Yes but the Republican party has left US!
He and his ilk no longer control my vote or my purse... I am a Conservative. This is no divide presstitutes... what you are seeing is evolution and the old guard dying loudly while threatening everyone. The old codger party is finished... out with the old and in with the new... for the "old" have ALL had a hand in our demise. Their time must come to an end for there to be a new beginning.
LLS
McCain’s people are Vichy Republicans.
Mr. niteowl77
I view McCain hardly any different than otwink a this point.
Syrian Rebels: Al-Qaeda..
I am not a Rand Paul fan, but he is right on this one.
McCain is a friggin maniac.
Supply Al Quada rebels with heavy weapons???? insanity.
the man is crazy
“Party leaders are split over how to broaden their appeal to voters”
BY STICKING TO YOUR DAMN PRINCIPLES!
We already have the nanny, liberal party!
Does somebody think the GOP can pander better than the Dem’s???!!!!???
McCain proves it is past time for Cruz-Palin-Paul et al, some conservative billionaires, and millions of just plain folks, to start a 3rd party. Then we would have the Democrat (socialist/Marxists) Party, the “Grand Ole Party”, better known as the Republican Party (liberals) and the Constitution Party (true conservatives).
On all the issues of the day, these 3 parties would compete for votes in Congress. With a third party, LIV’s (Low information voters) could then HEAR (maybe) for the first time the Conservative Voice! Right now, they never do because RINO Pubbies like McCain dilute it with their particular brand of soft-center liberalism.
On vote day, whether in the Senate or the House, coalition’s would “naturally” form and the “winning coalition” would carry the vote for that day. On another day and some other vote, coalitions may be reversed, and so on.
When the McCain Wing of the current “Republican Party” and the new “Constitution Party” can agree, they will carry the day. When they can’t they won’t. But, we need a 3rd Constitution Party so that the Conservative View can be heard and RING throughout the country, EVERYDAY, from sea to shining sea, on every issue.
Fox News for example, would then change it’s interview format. Instead of just “the left” and “the right”, which skews reality, they would then put up three opinions on every interview. They would be the socialist/Marxist/communist Democrats, the liberal Republicans and the TRUE Conservatives or Constitution Party view.
I’m thinking about whether I would mind if, to keep their FCC license, all the alphabet TV/Cable outfits have to give equal time EACH TIME to the THREE views, not TWO !!!
Opinion shows like say Hannity OR Chris Matthews, could stay, they just are required to make it clear by announcing each night that their show is in the business of advancing a particular opinion, not reporting the NEWS. You see, a LIV (low information voter) might be watching and he/she could not, on their own, figure that out.
Somebody needs to send the GOP a compass.
We’d better have 51%, because as soon as the Borrow and Spend party realizes they’ve lost our support they’ll end all pretenses that they care about our values and join the Tax and Spend party on all votes to advance their common goal.
McCain has betrayed all that the GOP stands for—He has become a joke of sorts and as such must be purged from power—a Civil War is brewing in the ranks of the GOP—the Tea Party vs the lounge lizard Republican. My money is on the “wacko birds”. They will save the party, re-structure it, and in the process save the nation. Like all civil wars, it will not be pretty—but maybe that’s as it should be.
We need more information before we send any weapons. McCain should send his daughter alone, on a protracted fact-finding tour of Syria to get the real story.
