The fiancée of murdered soldier Lee Rigby has spoken of how she was left ‘devastated’ by his killing.
Aimee West paid tribute to 25-year-old Drummer Rigby as ‘a great man’, saying she was ‘extremely proud’ of him.
Her statement came four days after she tearfully laid flowers at the scene of his death near Woolwich Barracks in south London.
She had flown home from Afghanistan, where she is serving with the royal military police.
Drummer Rigby and Miss West were engaged after he separated from his wife Rebecca, with whom he had a two-year-old son Jack.
Lee Rigby was murdered in Woolwich, south-east London, last week (Picture: PA) In the statement released through Scotland Yard, 22-year-old Miss West said: ‘I am devastated by the loss of Lee, who was a loving fiancé.
‘I am extremely proud of him and I am moved by all the flowers and tributes, and that he has been remembered by the nation as the great man that he was.’
Drummer Rigby, of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, was hacked to death in the street not far from his Woolwich base. His widow, Rebecca, has previously paid tribute to him as ‘a devoted father’ and revealed they had been due to meet last weekend to discuss their future.
Detectives investigating Drummer Rigby’s murder issued a new appeal for information at the scene as it was confirmed that he died from multiple stab wounds.
They asked for information about the blue Vauxhall Tigra, registration N696 JWX, which hit Drummer Rigby last Wednesday afternoon.
An inquest into the death will be opened at Southwark crown court on Friday.
God Bless and help this family recover as well as they can from this. I cannot imagine explaining to a 2 y.o. child that his father is dead, much less the fact that someday, that little boy will find out how he was murdered.

One of the killers is being charged for murder and for illegal possession of a handgun. Chances are, in Britain’s sick Brave New World, he’ll serve more time on the handgun charge than for the murder.
