In terms of his cluelessness on that part of the earth, he;s not that different from 90 % or so of the Republican establishment. On these issues, frankly, McCain doesn’t exactly stick out like a sore thumb amongst Republicans and too many self styled conservatives.

Trying to Westernize and liberate these places the way we’ve been doing as proven slightly less effective than the war on poverty.

These have been the Republican standard bearers since President Ronald Reagan, 24 years ago.

Over the last 60 years, the Presidency has been held by Republicans for sixty percent of the time. Over the last 24 years, the Presidency has been held by Republicans fifty percent of the time. Since the early 1950s there have been 9 Republican administrations (Eisenhower X 2, Nixon X 2, Reagan X 2, GHW Bush X 1, GW Bush X 2) and 7 Democrat administrations (Kennedy X 1, Johnson X 1, Carter X 1, Clinton X 2, and Obama X 2); Republicans were reelected 4 times, Democrats 2 times.

That’s all true. And the sad thing is, despite having the White House 60% of the time, consider whether we went Left or Right overall. It’s an utter damnation of the Republican party what they did with their opportunities.

In particular, when we had the presidency and the majority in the Senate and House, we were not only utter failures, we still helped the Left implement it’s policies.
