U.S. reps urge end to 'Redskins'

Ten members of Congress are urging the Washington Redskins to change their name because it is offensive to many Native Americans.

The representatives said Tuesday that they've sent letters to Redskins owner Dan Snyder, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Redskins sponsor FedEx, and the other 31 NFL franchises.

The letter to Snyder says that "Native Americans throughout the country consider the 'R-word' a racial, derogatory slur akin to the 'N-word' among African Americans or the 'W-word' among Latinos."

Among the group sending the letters are the leaders of the Congressional Native American Caucus, Tom Cole, R-Okla., and Betty McCollum, D-Minn.

I know a ton of Indians - hunted and fished with them from California to Canada and the Midwest - and not a one of them objected to the name Redskins.

I know these leftist Indian haters well. They’re a bunch of wimps who are led around by their schwantzes by leftist white female commies. A good number of these bitches have been chased out of the reserves by the tribes.

I feel just as strongly as anyone else regarding racial and ethnic epithets, but this political correctness is destroying our basic liberties. I personally don't care what they name the team - it's a free country and the 1st Amendment stands for Freedom of Speech.

The exceptions are limited - yet such outrages as pornography and flag burning, among other things are deemed "protected speech."

Some years ago, the Washington Compost began referring to the Notre Dame football teams as the "Irish" rather than the"Fighting Irish" as they have been known for over a century.

I am of primarily Irish descent - a seasoning of Scottish blood there - explains my preference for Single Malt Scotch. My forebears didn't achieve their Freedom, or any other of their accomplishments, by toeing anyone's politically correct line. They spoke with acid tongues and wielded heavy blades. They, and I, are the "Fighting Irish!" And we're damned proud of it!

Call them the Redskins or any other name you want - they've borne it for seven decades or more, and at this late date I'll be damned if I'll stand for it to be erased because of the tender sensitivities of a few critics who have an aberrant take on American History.

E Pluribus Unum! Remember that? It's damned near gone now with the mewling of the whining class. When it's finally gone, so are we.

"Riamh nár dhruid ó sbairn lann!"

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
