List of 81 pistols, rifles and shotguns banned by Maryland

Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) of Maryland signed into law on May 16 a measure intended to control the sale of so-called assault weapons, which have been involved in incidents such as the mass killing at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown CT in December in 2012. The measure casts a broad net over a variety of weapons, both pistols and long guns, that have at least two of three characteristics – folding stock, grenade launcher or flash suppressor. Firearms having any two of these characteristics, therefore, qualify as an “assault weapon” under provisions of the law. Specific pistols, rifles and, shotguns, “or a copy regardless of the producer or manufacturer,” are now banned in the “Free State.”

The law shall take effect on October 1. It also requires fingerprinting, licensing and training for new handgun purchases; reduces the number of bullets ammunition magazines can legally hold from 20 to 10 rounds, and prohibits gun ownership by the mentally ill. Of the bill, O’Malley said, "The legislation signed today takes a comprehensive, common-sense approach to help keep our communities safe while striking a balance between protecting the safety of law enforcement and our children, and respecting the traditions of hunters and law-abiding citizens to purchase handguns for self-protection."

Groups lobbying for gun owners’ rights were incensed by O’Malley’s move. For example, a spokesman for Gun Owners of America, Erich Pratt, said after the signing, "We think it's sad that Maryland officials have ignored the Constitution and are now fingerprinting gun owners like sex offenders," Gun Owners of America spokesman Erich Pratt said after the bill signing. "These new restrictions will do nothing to make the citizens of Maryland safer because criminals never obey the gun laws." The National Rifle Association promises to contest the law in court.

In May, O’Malley also signed a bill that outlawed capital punishment in Maryland.

The idea of rifles that penetrate bullet proof limousines scare the hell out of elitist politicians. Its the connotation of the 2A involving resistance to a tyrannical government that bothers them most.

Yes, that's the only possible reason, I guess. But, if necessary, even an anti-tank rocket may occur in the hands of free patriots :)

I cannot recall this weapon being used in any crime anywhere, at any time. If, however, the Maryland state legislature can include this gun to the list, they can include all guns. And, they will.

It is not crime control they are after. It is people control. They do not even want to get rid of guns. They want them top be the only ones with guns. To them, you and I are merely property of the State and they consider themselves to be the State. That,[in my opinion] alone is not amazing. What is amazing, or sickening would be a better term, is the number of individuals are willing to sell their souls [birthright]for a bowl of Government soup.

The antis have been trying to find a way to disarm the public for the last sixty years, one step at a time.

It has always been about handguns. Assault rifles are just a decoy to try and get their anti-gun foot in the door.

Once they get a ban on AWs then they will use the same reasons to go after handguns.

John Kennedy killed with a 5 shot bolt action rifle.

Officer Tippit killed with a 6 shot revolver.

Charles Whitman, killed 14, wounded 32 others mostly with a bolt action 6mm hunting rifle. Also used a shotgun and an m1 carbine.

Medgar Evers, shot with a 5 shot 1917 bolt action Enfield rifle.

Martin Luther King, shot with a 4 shot Remington 760 pump action Gamemaster rifle.

Bobby Kennedy with a .22 Iver Johnson Cadet revolver.

George Wallace wounded with a 5 shot Charter Arms .38spl revolver.

Howard Johnsons shooter (Mark Essex) killed nine, wounded thirteen with a 4 shot RUGER .44 mag Deerslayer rifle.

Gerald Ford attacked with a 7 shot 1911 semi auto.

Edmond OK post office with two National Guard 7 shot 1911 pistols.

SF mayor Moscone and his homo toadie killed with a 6 shot revolver.

John Lennon murdered with a 5 shot Charter Arms revolver.

Ronald Reagan and Jim Brady with an RG-14 .22 revolver.

Ronald Gene Simmons: killed sixteen people. Strangled half his family, shot the other half with a .22 single action six shot revolver.

What do they all have in common? NONE over 7 rounds, yet after each one came a cry of panic to ban all of them.

Now Maryland has banned certain firearms, they will be making plans to come after the rest of them. Mark my words.

No one here knows for sure if the M1 Carbine is banned. According to a strict reading of the law the M1 carbine is not banned. However the "copycat" clause is so deliberately unclear that in practice the MSP may consider the M1 carbine to be a "copycat" of the M1A. The same situation exists vis-a-vis the AR10. The AR10 is not specifically regulated, but it might get whacked under the copycat provision as a "copy" of the AR15 (which is, of coures, absurd, but these are liberals we are dealing with).

What it comes down to is the MSP are going to be the arbiters of what can and cannot be sold here, and they have not yet issued any guidance to the public. We will find out in October.

Unconstitutional. Someone in that state should sue and they should win.

Nope. But it might be considered a ‘copycat’ of the M1A. Only the MSP know for sure, and they aren’t talking yet.

NRA-ILA is making the arrangements as we speak. But no one can sue until someone is impacted by the law which goes into effect Oct 1.

Another unfortunate wrinkle is Maryland's referendum law, which could delay the start of litigation by as much as 18 months if a referendum on tha law is sucessfully placed on the ballot. What is worse is that if the sheeple uphold the law (which they likely will) the legal bar will be much higher than it would otherwise be. The donks are running a false-flag operation to get a referendum on the ballot for this very reason. The NRA is not supporting it, but a lot of good folk who do not understand the situation are signing it. It is a mess here.

Hey! I finally own a rifle that's banned! Woohoo!

I see "common-sense" was invoked once more. That's code for "whatever I decide". Have any of these firearms actually been involved in a crime in Maryland?

Colorado is doing the heavy lifting in the meantime.

And even with the unconstitutional referendum, the class action suit (likely win) filed in 10th District Federal Court by 55 Colorado Sheriffs and many businesses should help bolster any delayed suit brought in Maryland.

Let’s hope so. Maryland has a strong shootng community, but our politics is dictated by the highly compensated federal drones in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties and the free sh*t takers in Baltimore. The courts are our only real chance to pull the plug on this utterly arbitrary gun grab.

There is a strange irony here in Maryland. Because the new law is a ban on sale, not posession, people are buying the weapons on the list like hotcakes. Furthermore, because it will be illegal after October 1st to alter a "good" weapon into an "evil" configuration (for instance installing a mil-spec A2 barrel on an AR15 upper) many people who own "good" guns are altering them into "evil" guns before the deadline.

So the net result of the legislation is more "evil" guns and fewer "good" guns.

Yeah, I always do laugh when lists of that sort turn into shopping lists. Not, apparently, what their authors had in mind. And that 0bama and his merry band of fools really are splendid firearms salespeople. You might call that...Unintended Consequences...

On the plus side, my AR-15 armorer’s skills have been buffed in recent weeks. Stripped lowers are available again at good prices. I’m thinking one per month until October 1.
