The Kansas Legislature continues to grind toward a tax agreement today. Its tempting to snicker at the chambers inability to actually pass a budget after working at it for three months, but we should cut lawmakers some slack. Remaking an entire state takes time.
Much has been made of the continuing gridlock in our national government, brought on largely by the polarized nature of our two major political parties. Divided national government, in our time, is a recipe for dysfunction.
But a much different dynamic is playing out in state governments. There, one-party control is becoming the norm.
According to the Pew Charitable Trusts news service Stateline, 26 legislatures have become more Republican since 2003. The GOP holds a strong grip on legislatures in the Old South, the Plains, in some Rocky Mountain states and the industrial Northeast.

Fair enough, except for two things: They never said a peep when the R's were the minority, it suddenly assumes importance two minutes after D's assume minority status. And...they wanted the minority to have such power it amounted to a veto over what the majority wanted, IOW, the minority would actually have more power than the majority.
So the rule apparently is, if the Dems have the majority, majority rules. If the Dems are a minority, then the minority needs to be able to veto the majority.
Yes, it is.
Heck, forget Kwame.
You got to love it when a rat MI Supreme Ct. Justice goes to federal prison for bank fraud.
Can’t wait to be a thorn in the side of Schauer and campaign fraud.

Will Karl Marx Lenin’s open seat be flipped?
Gary Peters is slick and slimy as they come, but oh does he have a record.
I became convinced quite some time ago that even if you gave the Republicans 100% of the seats, they still wouldn’t do what is necessary to save the country.
Divided national government, in our time, is a recipe for dysfunction.Besides this internal contradiction, governments *needs* to be divided to avoid single party state rule and over-legislating.
When I think Blue State I think rust belt.
Imo, it’s the existence of a glom of ideologies hostile to the very existence of the US being the foundation of one wing of our bi-party system that’s “dividing the nation”.
And, when someone’s whining about politics dividing the nation, they usually mean everyone who’s standing up to the commiescum should just stfu and lay down.
It may have been introduced, but there isn’t the kind of lockstep, get-it-done-at-all-cost support that was there with SB5 or with other states’ bills of this nature. When the last memorable/major losses were non-union(NCR) or bailout-related(GM) as well as a non-union manufacturer like Honda thriving without it, a case for RTW is hard to make aside from “catching up with the Smiths and Joneses”.
Ohio has been more middle-of-the-road than Michigan or Wisconsin, and was about par with Indiana. Given that the first attempt in 1958 was disastrous, the path to GOP control has been to steer clear of controversial(yes, thanks mostly to Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland) bills like RTW.

If I am to be forced to live in a single party state, it sure the hell isn’t going to be their party.
I can't speak to IL, but in NY, two party rule IS one party rule.....has been for a looooong time. Remember Govs. Rockefeller, Wilson and Pataki? How about Sen. Javitz and those whiz-bang NYC Mayors, Lindsay and Bloomberg. They ALL sported the (R) after their names. Last but far from least, let us not forget the total SNAFU that was NY 23. So ya see, it ain't so much that folks in NY enjoy one party rule, it's just that it's the only game in town.
Dave, Dave, Dave...
It just sort of slipped your mind that the biggest states with the most electoral votes have been in the death grip of Democrats for a couple of decades now?
California is the clearest example.
And the only criticism about that state of affairs is that Republicans refuse to "compromise," aka give in to what the progressive spend 'til they die progressive decide to do?
How long can they pull that off?
Really? When I think blue state...I think about Chechens here on EBT cards with immunity blowing up spectators at an all American Event...being treated at the finest hospitals in the world for free and having a fan club on fb ....but....that’s just me.
Perhaps shutting down the city in Weimar Germany style..
I don’t know... call me crazy.
Good point. Far too many northeastern Republians are RINOS including the one who ran for president six months ago. Isn’t there a Conservative party in New York state?
I would love to see the states controlled by Republicans become proactive in preventing voter fraud.
Hard to believe Michigan of all places is a model of what needs to be done.
1. Voter ID and reform
2. Right-to-work and no preferential treatment of unions.
3. Split the electorals.
states don’t have rights only delegated powers. rights are God given and only to people. far as i know.

Democrats have grown stronger in 23 states. They control governments along both coasts and in New England.
Were becoming two nations.

Yes there is one, but it usually ends up endorsing the GOP candidate
