Two US embassy personnel shot in Venezuela

CARACAS — Two employees of the US embassy in Venezuela were shot and wounded early Tuesday in the capital Caracas, in a murky incident that local media and a police source said took place at a strip club.
"We can confirm that two members of the US embassy in Caracas were injured during an incident early this morning," State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell told reporters in Washington.
"Medical staff inform us that their injuries are not life-threatening," he added, noting that they were hurt at "some sort of a social spot" but without specifying the venue or nature of their injuries.
US diplomatic sources later confirmed to AFP that the two men were shot.

2 US embassy officials wounded by gunshots in altercation at strip club in Venezuela's capital Snip: Police said the two U.S. officials were shot following a brawl inside the club, which is in the basement of a shopping center in the upper-middle-class Chacao neighborhood.
The club’s Twitter account features racy photos of nude or scantily clad women pole dancing, posing inside cages or reclining on beds. The text under one photo invites visitors to come and watch the club’s “sexy show.”

Military attaches, not State Department. Of course our military personnel have a long and distinguished history of serving in strip clubs around the world, however it might not be a great idea when attached to an embassy.

Venezuela has a homicide rate of 45.1 per 100,000 people. In Mexico the homicide rate is 23.7 per 100,000. Venezuela makes Mexico look good.
