House Judiciary investigating whether Holder lied under oath

The House Judiciary Committee is investigating whether Attorney General Eric Holder lied under oath during his May 15 testimony on the Justice Department’s (DOJ) surveillance of reporters, an aide close to the matter told The Hill.

The panel is looking at a statement Holder made during a back and forth with Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) about whether the DOJ could prosecute reporters under the Espionage Act of 1917.

“In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material -- this is not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy,” Holder said during the hearing. However, NBC News reported last week that Holder personally approved a search warrant that labeled Fox News chief Washington correspondent James Rosen a co-conspirator in a national security leaks case.

If the prosicution is investigating itself, due the the fifth amendment, would they be forced to not present the case? Or would the prosicution go ahead and ask all the right questions, but then not be allowed to use the answers?

I just threw that out there, but one thing is certain, the average IQ of the House goes up measurably when those two are away, it’s even better when the “Lee Sisters (TWB Barbara and Sheila) are on “sabbatical.” I have rocks in my garden that are smarter than the lot of them.

Well, here’s where the word parsing will come in. He’ll say that going after Rosen was about potential prosecution for SEEKING classified material, not disclosing it.

I may be wrong, but I think there is a different kind of word parsing that went on. I believe Holder said he did not know of anyone who wanted to PROSECUTE members of the press.

He didn’t. He was INVESTIGATING a reporter. His out is that his warrant declared the reporter as an “unindicted co-conspirator”; he wasn’t indicted, so he was not being prosecuted, just investigated.

So ... Holder didn’t lie, he just misled.

Same as Obama, when asked if anyone in the White House knew of the IRS investigations, replied that he personally just found out about it from the press reports. He did not admit that his chief of staff and attorney knew; he just misdirected.

Actually, I saw Obama asked when he learned about the IRS tar getting of conservatives, but he answered by telling when he allegedly learned of the IG’s report. So he answered a different question than what he was asked.

...and his misleading answer screams that he knew, but he’s not worried about the press catching on.
