In other news, Texas drivers may now drive either standard or automatic transmissions with the same drivers license! /S

The law was pretty restrictive limiting the user to ONLY the type of firearm they trained with and used to obtain the license. This just relaxes that restriction as it should.

No controversy here, just getting some sense into the system.

What was it restricted to before, flintlocks?

What means “type”?

I qualified with a Colt 1911 Gold Cup .45.

Would that have precluded me from carrying my Sig P220.45?

Curious about prior restrictions, even though this law fixes that.

If you shot the range qualification with a semi-automatic, you could carry any gun.

If you shot the range qualification with a revolver, you could only carry a revolver.

The only restriction is if you shot the range qualification with a revolver. You were restricted to a revolver.

Previously if you used a revolver to get your CHL, you were only permitted to CC a revolver. If you used a semi-auto, you could CC either.

My wife carries a small S&W revolver. She had to qualify with my XD 9mm. If she qualifies with the revolver, she was only able to carry a revolver. But by qualifying with the 9mm, she could carry either a revolver or a semi-auto. Always a stupid reg.

Good. If they would only allow open carry as well, so people won't get it trouble for accidentally showing their holstered weapon, they'd be golden.

Thanks. Dumb rule though. I started my wife, son and so far one of the grandkids with revolvers.

Problem with open-carry, at least in VA, is that it always has to be showing. I keep writing Richmond pushing concealed without permit.

Excellent. I never understood the reason for the law as it was previously written.

>> I started my wife... with revolvers.

Hmmm... haven’t tried that, less threatening ways of getting her started have always worked okay for me. ;-)

Same in New Hampshire, you don't need a license for Open Carry and but you need one for Concealed, getting in the car and closing the door counts as Concealed.

Texas has to opposite rule, you can carry Concealed (with license) but if anyone happens to see it, you can get in trouble. I think that's nuts.

NH tried to change it to constitutional carry but the Senate killed that bill back in May 2012. The Gov had threatened to veto it anyway.

Oklahoma has the same kind of rule. Semi-auto all guns. If you qualified with a revolver or a derringer you are limited to what you qualified with.

Pretty stupid.

I was ready to go out and get a Mac10.

Imagine if they had a law stating that if you grew up on a PC you could not use a Mac, or vice versa.
