Depends on how you define natural born citizen.

TED CRUZ (and plenty of others) define it as being a citizen the day you were born...”from birth” on, you are a citizen. They say the other kind of citizen is one who is not a citizen from the day of birth, but instead becomes naturalized through the naturalization process.

Shocker, I know, to you, but Ted Cruz claims citizenship at birth from being born to an American citizen mother of legal age (18). That his mother was working in Canada the day of his birth has nothing to do with anything. He is not a Canadian citizen. He is not a man without a country. He never had to become naturalized in order to be a citizen. He was one from birth onward. According to that definition of natural born citizen, he is.

I don’t know Rubio’s exact history and am not interested in it. I am afraid that Rubio has chosen most unwisely in this immigration bill cause. I have concluded that Rubio isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. I’m still trying to decide what Rand Paul’s excuse is...

I’m well aware that the United States recognizes “anchor babies”...an illegal alien crosses the border into America and has a baby and that supposedly makes baby a citizen. This is a stupid choice that this country’s rulers have made. It should not be allowed, and it causes great confusion in peoples’ minds because they think everyone everywhere is automatically not a U.S. citizen if not born on American soil. Not true, but the allowance of anchor baby citizens here makes many believe that.

Rubio can go away, for all I care. He’s an inspirational speaker and that’s about it.

That Ted Cruz is a citizen because of his mother’s citizenship, I do not doubt. It is called, derivative citizenship, or jus sanguinis. One must be a citizen to be either a Representative in the House OR a Senator, which is Ted Cruz’s office.

The eligibility clause in the U.S.Constitution states that one must be a Natural born Citizen, which requires meeting a higher non-statutory class than just ‘citizen’. It means that one has been born in the U.S.A. of two citizen parents, and no stinking legal statute is required to assert one’s citizenship.

Don’t like that Constitutional clause? Get Congress to change it. They will not do so because they know the majority of Americans don’t want to change it.

I’ve come to the same conclusion. He’s, at best, a well-spoken “rube” who has been easily rolled by the Democrats and GOPe. As worse he’s a cynical creature lacking in any integrity who was NEVER a conservative.

I wish Hannity (and, to a much lesser extent, Limbaugh) would stop catering to him.

I define natural born as someone who has two parents who are both American citizens at the time of that person’s birth. The founders wanted a president who would not have dual loyalty. If one parent were foreign, by human nature, there would be a sense of commonality with that foreign country. Neither Rubio or Obama can make that claim. If Cruz’s father was an American citizen at the time of his birth, then he is a natural born citizen. The fourteenth amendment is very specific that only a person ‘subject to the jurisdiction of the United States’ is a citizen if born in the US. A foreign diplomat’s child born here would not be a US citizen. Neither is the child of illegal aliens born in an American hospital.

McCain is a natural born citizen even though he was born in the Panama Canal Zone. Both of his parents were American citizens at the time of his birth and he was born on US soil (PCZ at that time was US territory.) The democrats made it a point to issue a declaration about McCain being a natural born citizen before he ran in 2008 (when there was no doubt) to take the issue off of Obama. And the American public being as stupid as it is, and the GOP being as cowardly as they are, never pursued the issue. Hence, we have an ineligible dictator destroying our country.

As for Rand Paul and his pandering to the illegals for amnesty, another example of an elected official selling his soul. Follow the money. Anyone who supports amnesty, abortion, same sex marriage, relinquishing American sovereignty to the UN, destroying the Constitution, etc. will never get my support.

Has Cruz actually made that argument in support of a modern, made up, definition of ‘natural born citizen’?

All I’ve heard him say is something to the effect of ‘that’s for others to decide’, which is lawyerly for, “I know better, but it’s not in my interest to argue against my case.”
