SANFORD, Fla. Attorneys on both sides in the George Zimmerman trial will be in court Tuesday morning, arguing over evidence that includes 911 calls and text messages from Trayvon Martin's cellphone.
WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer does not expect the defense to get its requested six-week delay, but does expect Zimmerman's lawyers to win some of its battles in court Tuesday.
The state does not want the jury to hear about Martin's texts in the days leading up to his shooting death.
According to documents, in the texts, Martin talks about fighting, how his mother kicked him out of the house, about drugs and about buying a gun. He also exchanged angry words with his girlfriend, who was on the phone with him moments before the shooting.
The state said the texts were not relevant, but the defense said they show that Martin was an aggressive and angry teenager the night he and Zimmerman got into the deadly confrontation and it supports their argument that Martin was the aggressor.
The defense will also ask the judge to impose sanctions on prosecutors for allegedly withholding the text evidence from the defense for four months.
Both sides will also argue whether the defense gets to challenge the state's speech recognition experts, who said it was Martin who was calling for help in the background of one of the 911 calls.....

And to think that we were all told that these two puppies were in love. No wonder the state has been hiding the text messages, phone evidence, and Witness 8.
Hearing tomorrow morning @ 8 AM est.
Bring pretzels and watch the state try to twist the law and the facts into its newest contortion.
BUMP
My prayers belong to George Zimmerman.
I suppose the “state has a responsibility” to argue against weapons of the defense, but in this case it really makes them look like asses. To be prayed, of course, that the judge allows for the obvious relevance... the attitude that Trayvon went into this altercation with does mean something and even the prosecution knows it but is probably caught between a rock and a hard place here with all the political pressure to “do something.”
I’d be a little more comfortable if the judge didn’t seem to have a soft spot for that Larsen E. Pettifogger routine some of the opposing lawyers put on.
The only way I can see the state keeping out the phone and text evidence is if they’re not going to claim Trayvon was the victim of an unprovoked assault, relying on Crump to pollute the jury pool for them. Any other route would be an automatic reversal I think. Don’t think they’ll get the sanctions. Continuance is 50/50, I think.
CNN is starting to clear its throat and get the desks in place for upcoming 24/7 coverage of the trial. I was flipping channels today and saw them doing a one-hour show mostly consisting of his interrogation at the Sanford police station and his re-enactment the next day.
The state's case is a bit confusing to me, too. Was he delivering the Meals on Wheels to sick and shut-in elderly white widows that evening, or had he just left his Nuclear Physics Advanced Placement Seminar?
Also, faced with lagging St. Trayvon relics sales, I am wondering if the prosecutor will try and work in a blood-stained Bible? That would be a godsend. Street sales during the up-coming riots would be tremendous!
Mr. Crump, why does there need to be a battle over evidence at all?
If Saint Trayvon was such an angel, then prove it to the jury. Surely there must be a mountain of evidence that testifies to his angelic nature.
Let us all see it, or do you feel more comfortable with your lies?
The prosecution says "saint",the defense says "sinner".The evidence seems to support the defense's claim.
If I was the judge, I would ONLY allow the text that were sent the day that Trayvon was shot and killed. The others do not matter.
Patterns of behavior would be relevant to me.
Why the arbitrary cut off of a day? It looks a lot like there was a build-up of Trayvon to this tragic encounter. This ain’t just splitting the baby, it’s trimming its ears off with scissors.
Patterns of behavior would be relevant to me.
Then you would have to use patterns of behavior on Zimmerman too. How long do you want this trial to go? lol. It already is going to be on every channel for weeks. I shutter to think this being another OJ nonsense trial.
Tune it out of you don’t like it; the last thing we want in this land is to truncate a trial because news watchers are jaded. And sure go ahead and trace Zimmerman if you got the resources. I doubt that Zimmerman was ever into purple drank.
Like I told the other poster, you would have to go into Zimmerman’s life at all stages too. It would make the trial too long. It is already an over blown story where both sides are idiots. Zimmerman by listening to the 911 operator and Trayvon by not keep walking to his destination.
Tune it out IF
meant not listening to the 911 operator.
I wish I could tune it out. It is everywhere. You can’t go to a website without it being there even on here.
You are clearly frivolous here now. This is a real man’s life, not a media entertainment that has to be tailored to The Royal You. Fine, I think this would emphasize that Zimmerman was not a Purple Dranker. Go right ahead....
