A Batavia High School teacher's fans are rallying to support him as he faces possible discipline for advising students of their Constitutional rights before taking a school survey on their behavior.....
But John Dryden said he's not the point. He wants people to focus on the issue he raised: Whether school officials considered that students could incriminate themselves with their answers to the survey that included questions about drug and alcohol use....
The survey was not a diagnostic tool, but a "screener" to figure out which students might need specific help, Newkirk said.
Superintendent Jack Barshinger said teacher support for doing a survey grew after several suicides by students in recent years. Students and staff typically said they had no idea those teens were in distress.....
bttt
Government schools cause suicide.

If they were on prescription drugs, they were under massive mind altering delusion, and greatly increased liklihood of suicide.
Suicides among non-prescription users are almost non-existent.

Yes, they do, by getting them on Ritalin or similar poison.
I'm neither a hippie or lice ridden.
Book vs Cover. Maybe someone mentioned that once upon a time.
At least the 'lice ridden hippie' advised his students of the Constitution.
You might have some issues you need to get over.

He should have shown the kids the “Don’t talk to Cops” videos.
I don’t ever remember taking any kind of personal “survey” when I was in school. Now, when I got to college, one class handed out a survey on sex practices. I remember looking at some of the questions, which were freaky and disgusting, and pretty much offended my sensibilities. So I tossed it in the garbage.
(adjusting my asbestes undies)
Sorry, folks, I’m old school and I don’t think that minors have Constitutional rights on a survey. I didn’t read the whole article but if the survey is to identify kids who may be headed in the wrong direction, the teacher’s “warning” only served to skew the results and make the survey worthless.
Personally? Going by the information provided? I think the cat did the right thing.
I might have led a protest and gotten fired for that, but that's just me. ;)

You would be wrong.
The Constitution provides enumerated powers for a federal gooberment, leaving the other powers to the people or the States.
The Constitution doesn't give rights. It lists some in the amendments, but reserves all rights to the people and the States.

“Sorry, folks, Im old school and I dont think that minors have Constitutional rights on a survey.”
Why would they NOT have constitutional rights?
He should have also gone through a few Here’s your brain on drugs ads and moved onto the rapid aging effects of Meth, etc.
Did you miss the part that said the surveys had each kids name on them?
Someone here on FR attacks someone for having a beard and ponytail or long hair, I'm going to speak up.
I should be well known enough around here that folks know where I stand on real conservatism and the Constitution.
The teacher educated his students in 3 classes about the Constitution. I thought that's what we were wanting. Regardless of his appearance.

People like you are dangerous to our freedom!
Constitutional rights are not in any way limited.
The “survey” had no legitimate purpose.
Are you saying you would want your school to ask about parental activities such as gun ownership or your political leanings or alcohol use or recreational activities. and all the other things in your family that he thinks you do. think of all of the investigations that might take away your rights as a parent because little johnny told them You were the Devil.
What makes his proposed punishment even more outrageous is that this was an optional survey.
