Texas Drops “Anti-American” CSCOPE Lessons; Battle Continues
The New American ^ | May 21, 2013 | Alex Newman

highly controversial school curriculum used in much of Texas known as “CSCOPE,” which came under relentless assault from activists and parents who said it was promoting “progressive” anti-American and anti-Christian propaganda, was dealt a major blow by policymakers this week. However, despite media reports and legislators heralding the death of the divisive educational program, major elements remain in place.

The system surged into the national spotlight earlier this year when conservative media outlets began exposing the curriculum contents, which critics lambasted as everything from “Marxist” indoctrination to “pro-Islam” attacks on Christianity. Others complained that parents were not allowed to access the material due to “licensing” restrictions.

Produced by the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative (TESCCC), the lesson plans included, for example, an assignment to design a new communist flag based on symbols used by socialist regimes. A controversial handout for “social studies,” meanwhile, portrayed humanity as evolving upward from a purportedly selfish free-market economic system toward socialism. The final step was communism, where, supposedly, “all people work together for everyone.” Another lesson suggested the famous Boston Tea Party could be considered an act of terrorism.

Among the most controversial elements of the entire scandal were school materials that critics viewed as hostile toward Christianity. One lesson plan, for instance, introduced the Christian religion as a “cult,” even suggesting that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ described in the Bible represented repackaged versions of Egyptian and Persian mythology — an absurd notion that has been debunked by countless scholars and theologians. Opponents also blasted what they said was a “pro-Islam” bias in the lesson plans.

Why Texas or any other state would need or want unconstitutional federal funding for its education programs remains unclear — especially considering the “strings” that are almost always attached

Since most dedicated conservative parents home school in Texas or send their students to religious schools, this indoctrination is mainly being fed to the Mexican students that Texas is forced by the Supreme Court to educate.

Mexican-American administrators with strong affinity to La Raza’s racist ideology are only too happy to have CSCOPE in the public schools they head. And most of the teachers in such inferior schools are only too happy to use canned material, anti-American or not, so they don’t have to make their own lesson plans. The clueless taxpayers pay for their own destruction, as usual.

This is how the comrades subverted places like Californicate and wisconSIN and Ewww Yuck. They corrupted the education system

The People of Texas need to get out the tar & feathers over this stuff. It is simply time to take the leftist out of the public schools. Better yet abolish the public schools

A lot of the school districts here play a sort of monkey see, monkey do game. If they see one district doing it, they jump on board thinking it's the latest, greatest thing. Fortunately, conservative Collin County (where I proudly live) hasn't jumped on the CSCOPE bandwagon.

It wasn't funded by the Feds. It got in under the radar, because the local school districts bought the CSCOPE online curriculum with their own funds after turning down free textbooks paid for by the state. The online curriculum wasn't regulated by the Texas State Board of Education, because technically there was no text book. The new law, SB 1406 closes the loophole and puts all education curricula under the control of the SBOE. Since SB 1406 passed with over 2/3'rds margins in the House and Senate, the bill goes into effect IMMEDIATELY upon signing by the governor.

What have you been smoking. There are lots of conservatives in Texas who don't have the funds to send their kids to private schools. A good friend of mine, Kara Sands, got involved when she saw some of her son's tests from school and saw a "correct answer" that blamed the US for the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

Quite frankly it would be scary if conservatives withdrew entirely from the public schools. Then there would be no oversight of the curriculum taught to the vast majority of school children in Texas.

No one should be forced to take time to remove a curriculum of hate from the educational system. The time should be spent getting the person(s) responsible for bringing such into the school fired.

I disagree. We should always evaluate curriculum and textbooks, preferably before they reach the classrooms.

That is my point. They should never have reached the curriculum and those responsible should be fired.
