Lois Lerner, the IRS head of exempt organizations division, will invoke the fifth amendment this week rather than answer questions about the recent IRS scandal, according to a letter sent to Congress by her attorney.

They should just give her immunity and force her to testify. No one cares about her jail time.

Best not to offer immunity until you have learned what the truth actually is.

Offered immunity, she would be free to offer misleading testimony...and would not be subject to a charge of perjury.

Save the grant of immunity for later, when you'll have more leverage.

“So does that mean that the IRS thing is worse than Benghazi?”

It’s worse because the sheeple are listening to it. The IRS is something everyone knows and understands. They may not give two hoots about four dead Americans in the ME because we’ve been getting killed there for a dozen years, but they are tuned in on the domestic scandals.

agreed, but it’ll be more complicated than that. This woman needs to be drummed out of government service forfeiting all bonus’, pensions, benefits etc. if for no other reason than to provide an example to others of her ilk.

She is, first and foremost a traitor to the American system of government, and to the American people at large, and should be treated as such. No quarter, none whatsoever.

Not true. You can still be prosecuted for perjury, it’s a new crime. I dont really care about her, i want the capo of this regime.

Issa: “Ms. Lerner were you or are you now a member of a group or organization that wants to overthrow the United States government?”

Lerner: “On the advice of counsel, I refuse to answer on the grounds it may tend to incriminate me.”

Issa: “So you ARE engaged in the overthrow of the government.”

Lerner: “On the advice of counsel, I refuse to answer on the grounds it may tend to incriminate me.”

I read on another thread that the offer of immunity is negotiated between the sides lawyers......and the general area of information and who is implicated spelled out.....

so if the client suddenly "can't recall" or is misleading then the immunity is withdrawn.

i’d make her answer in public before giving her immunity. Give her immunity and 30 drs will show up swearing she has Alzheimers.

I wish they would ask her a series of invasive questions that were asked by the IRS, such as the content of her prayers, etc. Then, when she pleads the fifth, point out that those targeted by her office never had that same option when asked those very questions.

You know Benghazi is bad when 0bama shields the suspects from capture. Staged hostage taking, Benghazi was a gray bar hotel or the U.S. gov’t supplied Al Qaeda with the weapons they attacked us with. I guess we’ll never know since the FBI was conveniently prevented from examining the premises in a timely fashion.. But CNN did! THAT’S how dangerous it was there. /s

No, it means that they miscalculated.

They thought they could cover up Benghazi with throwing the IRS (which every American hates) under the bus without it being tied to the White House. Two things went wrong....first someone with intelligence information threw the administration under the bus by releasing the information that the administration was spying on reporters making the press mad and getting them to start to do some reporting. Then we have just found out Lois Lerner can be linked to the White House in the timeline of when targeting conservatives started with a visit to the White House and the facts that show coordination of targeting by several different agencies which means targeting came from the top which blew their plan of destroying a few low level IRS employees to cover for the scandal.

The White House can thank whoever leaked the spying on the reporters for loss of control of the scandals.

Benghazi is still the most horrible scandal bad enough for this administration to throw all their work and gains for their big government agenda under the bus to cover up that scandal. They just lost control of the cover up.

Anyone who needs to plead the Fifth regarding their conduct in public office needs to be removed from office, made subject of criminal investigation regarding whatever he/she won’t answer questions on, and forbidden to ever seek any other public office.

If I may be so presumptious as to add to your great idea...

“..and forbidden to ever seek any other public office or to work at any publicly-funded job.”

No more sucking at the taxpayer teat.

Yeah, i agree. I’d make her invoke the 5th in as embarassing a way as possible, then get testimony from lots of people about her actioms, then haul her back up to testify under immunity.

Sounds reasonable and proper. We all have to understand that, in Congressional investigative hearings, more goes on behind the scenes than in front of the cameras.

Most witnesses are deposed ahead of time, which allows the "prosecution" to learn what each witness will testify. Then, the sequence of appearance and the questions asked can be pre-determined in order to place the testimony into a coherent pattern that leads to a conclusion.

Indeed, many witnesses who are deposed may not be called to testify -- since they don't have anything to add.

Immunity negotiations would fall into this same background.

latest thread- Issa is an idiot. He allowed her to declare her innocence and then plead the 5th. He then sent her home.
